Top end android or latest iphone.

Which would you have and why?

I have the desire and chose it over the iphone based on price and it's petty much open to do and download anything from the off. It has all the benefits of the iphone without the drawbacks and restrictions and ridiculous price.

I just got the Desire, I'm on 3 network and could have waited for an iPhone 4, however a few mates in work have them and I'm not that impressed with them. I don't like iTunes anyway, so happy with the Android, which is easy to tether (use as a router/modem on a laptop) and stream telly etc. Got a great little GPS app as well that logs your lap times and G forces etc when doing track days (a bit like Race Chrono for the Nokia), however need to sort out an external GPS antenna for it.

I'd have the Desire too - I'm biased though cos I've got a Hero at the moment!

I hate iTunes so that's the dealbreaker for me with the iPhone...

I have a Hero and both my parents have the Desire. It's an awesome phone really, although the iphone has better apps in my opinion

I have an iPhone 4 and I am sending this message from it whilst currently lying in my bed! anyway I've not tried the htc but did have an iPhone 3G before this one. I just love the way my iPhone works, it does what I want/need straight out of the box no faffing about.

when it came to upgrading, I synched the old phone with iTunes then synched it up with the new phone, everything transferred over, messages, contacts, even my last dialogs numbers log! it just works and works well in my opinion.

as for slating iTunes, I've never had any problems with it. I even transferred from one computer to another and it's all been good! very simple drag and drop stuff and no need to delve into things.

as I said, it's all just worked perfectly out of the box for me. maybe I'm a minority but been a very happy apple customer!

iPhone4 it's the best smart phone on the market.
There is nout wrong with the iPhone4 Evey phone will drop bars if held around the anntena i can make my on call phone drop to 0 bars its a nokia 2323 and my partners blackberry 8900 I can make it happen on that too,do you actually know what% of users have reported the signal problem 1.7% it works fine it seems more of a problem for people that don't own one .
Mine works fine and much better signal that my old iPhone 3G had I get 3G in places I only used to get edge.
As I always say something is only worth what your willing to pay for it, but I hate that second best feeling lol.
In the hand it just got this quality feel to it like it's made from a solid chunk of granite, it's not like your regular Korean plastics company phone that the battery cover pops off when you put it on the desk, to look at it is flawless and the OS just runs beautifully,
For me having a computer/phone with a full blown Internet-age OS with thousands of applications which are the finest selection of apps available on any Smartphone, 960x640 326dpi IPS LED displays gorgeous and is currently the best available,
a 5Mpix autofocus backlit camera with 720p video the quality is also superb, 512MB RAM, 16GB flash, GPS, 802.11n wifi, HSPDA/UPA 3G networking, compass, Gyroscope and standards-based high-res H.264 video conferencing, no tweaks necessary, all lasting well more than a day on battery fitted into a slick clean classy thin device and is worth the extra 100 pounds.....
And once the jail break is released in the next few week you won't have to put up with any restrictions and anyone that says it voids ur warranty or breaks your phones shouldn't own a smartphone IMO lol

The signal might happen on the other phones you mention but thew don't cost 600 quid. And that I fear is why it's such a big deal. The big boys messed up.

I wouldn't mind forking out 600 or more if the thing was perfect and it's performance justified the price but till they address that issue ill stick with a cheaper and technically more powerfull desire.

And maybe apple has better applications but that's mainly because tiew had a 2 year head start. Given time android will be on a par.

All phones drop if held in a certain way iit just depends what kind of signal area you are in it's inevitable unless you stick the antenna on the top, jesus.
It's 500 quid for the 16gb not 600,
Hope your happy with your desire anyway.

the price is only an issue if you wish to buy the handset and use it on pay as you go. otherwise it's pretty much the same as others. and I remember a few years back it used to cost £300 for the latest nokia handset with it being on a contract!

I've not had any signal issues with my phone. as had been said the phone just works. I've not spoke to anyone that's got an iPhone and not liked it!

Iphone any day! Had the first iphone, then the 3g, and now the 3gs. The apps really are great, sometimes find myself blowing 59p for bit of fun. A few great free ones aswell.

The only people suffering from the iPhone 4 signal issue are those who don't own or used an iPhone before. The Android reacts in exactly the same way so that's not a valid point.

I've sold my first generation iPhone 8GB with £176 which is £57 more than I payed for the iPhone 4. Again, it is cheaper on the long run as they really hold their value very well. Every critic out there seem to think that the iPhone is the better phone, and probably the most advanced smart phone on the market today.

BUT

If the Android does well what you need, then it is an excellent choice and I hope it serves you well. That's all that should matter.

Hasn't this argument been done to death in several other threads?

The Apple fanboys will defend the company and it's products more vigourously than they would their own first born. Android fanboys will stop at nothing to put Apple down.

It's getting a bit boring now.

I have a phone and a satnav and a handheld games console and a PDA and a camera and a MP3 player and a lot of pockets to keep them in. Why would I want a single device that has all of those functions?

IPhone users please don't read this as I'm siding with you on this point but is it just me or is the alphanumeric keypad on the desire ****?

It never get's the words right and is slow. Qwerty is fine on the other hand. And pretty much everything else is brilliant!

I don't think iPhone has alpha numeric but not sure.

Chap at work has the HTC, he is raving about it and loves it. I am however not impressed with it, it looks nice, I'm sure the interface is great I used it a couple of times and didnt like it compared to my iphone.

Another mate has an iphone4 and I dont like that either. It doesnt look as sleek as the iphone 3G or 3gs, it looks boxy and bulky. I dont think its that big an upgrade over what I already have ( iphone 3g ) and I got my handset for nowt and I'm b*ggered if I am spending upgrading something that I find perfectly adequate for my needs.

I think you need to go into the shop and hold and use the phones in order to make a comparision.

I bought Sophie a iPhone for her 12th birthday. I went into one shop and said I wanted an iPhone, the idiot 'sales' bloke said 'Why', pointed to the HTC and said 'this is much better'. It might well be, I don't know and don't care, but the bloke has yet to learn about 12 year olds and branding.

HTC here, bigger screen, faster processor. Has loads of quality apps, has a removable battery which means you can carry a spare, removable micro sd (I'm waiting on a 16gb card). Costs me £20 a month for 300 mins, ultd Texts & Internet, no loss of signal.

For me the only edge Iphone has over it is the games as HTC's are non existant. HTC beats it to the flash player.

£20 or £35 a month? £15 a month would get me an extra day out on the bike, or an extra set of tyres every year.

I downloaded Race Ace, it does the lap times and also uses the G-sensor to show G-force. Only problem is, I'll need to get an external GPS antenna (if they make one) so I can store the phone under the seat when on a track.

DUde your missing out. Try exzeus, speedx 3d, armageddon squadron, raging thunder 2, homerun battle 3d, iron sight, heavy gunner 3d, etc. Etc. Etc. There are loads of very impressive games for top end android if you look.

DOwnload all these for free at 4shared.com just type in the name of the game followed by apk (android apps)

Iphone at the age of 12? Back in the days i bet many people on here only had cups and strings at the age of 12! :D (Awaits abuse)

Iphone - looks better; lets face it, which ones more impressive to whip out of a pocket?

Has anyone with the iphone 4 used 'Facetime' yet?

nah its really good i did it on an old 3 phone years ago and it was rubbish, but this is totally different it runs really well as its high-res H.264. so on a 2mb+ broadband link its smooth as hell. once the devs release a jailbreak you will be able to do it over 3g aswell.

the iphone4 has a much better feel than the 3g and 3gs imo I went from 3g myself and now when I hold my brothers 3g it feels cheap and nasty in the hand, the screen is just laughable as is the speed of the device itself.
the iphone4's camera is amazing quality, the screen is the best out there and just looks amazing, the device is fast and the multi taking works well with more and more apps updating to support this feature each day, its battery is really good and the device as a whole just looks and feels slick and the IOS4 runs beautifully.
In my job come across all types of mobile devices each day and get to spend quite alot of time playing about with different smart phones/ PDA's / and other hand-held devices, I'm not doubting that others phones don't perform well but for me none of them are better that's why I own an iphone4.

I work in the mobile industry and the return rates that Apple state are frankly shocking. The return rate for the 3GS would have had any carrier bulking. The only reason it sells is the Apple symbol on it.

I am not saying the iphone4 is a bad phone but I would take the Desire each and every time. You are paying for the image attached to it not a physical advantage. Yes the screen is gorgeous, but dont Apple state something like 326 PPI when the human eye can only detect 300 PPI, so what the point? They also exaggerated the 'invisible to a healthy human eye' line. To get that you need 477PPI and with the iphone4 display you would need to 1.5 feet away from LCD for it to be completely true.

As far as IOS4, and its 'multitasking' I have personally seen some issues with it that you do not get on the Android platform.

I am not a Apple hater (I am using a MacBook Pro at the mo) but they are not the be all and end all of mobile phones. They did move the game on with the original iphone but this is a disappointment.

mcgrimes
20-07-10, 03:40 PM
The original iphone did look much more valuable than the 3g/3gs due to its metal back which made it feel much solid and sturdier.

There is a large mark up on all apple products, and they are expensive, but ive found them to be much more reliable and well built than other products of the same nature; my mac for example is much nicer than most other laptops of the same price.

hindle8907
20-07-10, 03:44 PM
