Help - Hotpoint Washing machine error

I have a Hotpoint washing machine, wasnt the cheapest, figured it would last.

14 months old and I have had no problems until today, handwashed a top and put it in to spin, 16 mins came up and counted down but it did nothing, no spin, no movement of the drum.

It bleeped to say the 16 mins was up then a F01 error code came up and all the lights flashed, I couldnt use the off switch to turn it off and the door was locked.

I pulled the plug and switched it on, all the display went back to normal but same happened again.

Anyone had anything similar, I have googled it and got loads different responses to its fatal and switch it off for a time (which I have done).

Mines flooded the kitchen 3 times since Thursday Shell funnily enough. Not a Hotpoint machine though. It wouldn't finish a cycle and needed to be drained and put on 'spin only' to release the door. Needed to remove the panel at the front at the bottom) and remove the plug to drain, hence the floods. It was doing it because the filter was blocked as I put a bath mat in which fell apart! Once all the fluff was removed it's working fine. Worth a look to see if it is because it is blocked somewhere.

Just removed the panel at the front and all it has behind it is a red cover which has a hand and a big hazard symbol on it, which I assume means don't remove. Nothing else.

Cheers Nobbylad I seen that :( but I done a search on the net and I get all kind of responses. Just wondered if there were any eleccy technical person on here in the know how on here that have experienced this kinda error or worked with washing machines.

One persons on google search say they turned theirs off and back on and it sorted it, others have said its fatal ..... think my £200 AR tent will be going back and I will be spending the money on a new washing machine.

Can't help you I'm afraid Shell, but yes UKI is right, it's worth checking the manual to see if there is a filter somewhere that can be removed and cleaned, it's probably full of Samson hair!

Hoover HNWF7148, or similar?

Regular problem for me due to pet hair. Hoover engineers method is not to drain it by the filter, but to tip the machine back about 45 degrees, remove the filter, clean it, replace it, then use the drain cycle on the machine to empty the water. I have a wet and dry hoover, so I found it easier just to unscrew the filter a little bit to control the flow, and hold the hoover attachment to the filter and suck up the water as it comes out.

Mine was repaired 4 times under warranty in the first year, was OK for two years, then broke down just out of warranty. I paid the premium for an extended warranty with a machine that was already broken, and 8 weeks and three visits later it still wasn't fixed. I got a refund on the warranty and it's now in the garage, I need find somewhere that has a new wiring loom for it in stock as apparently that's what's wrong with it and Hoover was waiting 5 weeks for one from the factory and still no joy. I spent 100 quid at the launderette over 8 weeks, then bought a reconditioned machine for 100 quid and we are using that until we buy a new house where we will have or buy an integrated machine. The cheap reconditioned one will get plumbed in in the garage and will get used to wash pet towels and bedding.

hotpoint :rolleyes:, when our washer stopped a good few months back, pulled it out to try and check the belts etc couldn't get too them but laid it down on it's side and checked connections and stuff, but when i put it back in position, it all worked and has been fine ever since, you tried hitting it.

Beko machine, cheapest I could find at the time, lol! Seems to be working fine again now, just need to make sure I don't put the bath mat round again :D

Edit - Oooh and thanks for the tip from the Hoover guy, will try that if/when it happens again, saves drowning the kitchen again.

Motor short circuit, possibly brushes, from what i`ve searched online.

Our Hotpoint machine just stopped turning the drum and a quick look in the motor showed that the Carbon electrodes had worn to stubs.

New ones were twenty quid and took thirty minutes to remove and refit. :D

Try your local electrical parts dealer for further advice.

Thank you for everyone that had replied with their teccy help. I would never had a clue.

My mate came around today and he managed to work out it wasnt working LOL, the pump wasnt pumping out the water he managed to fill it with :( so he took the pump out and checked whatever with his little meter which was fine until he put the pump on then it was not .... so looks like the pump is bust.

This is now on my kitchen worktop and I will go my local electrical/repair shop and get them to test before I buy a new one.

Hopefully it won't cost too much, well not in the hundreds anyway

Update !!

Shell 1 - Currys 0

Well I called Hotpoint and they said - oh out of warranty cant help, so I quoted the Sales of Goods Act and they said we will reduce the call out fee, labout and repair fee to £75 all in.

I called Currys, oh can't help its out of warranty - I quoted the Sales of Goods Act and said I would start legal proceedings, wash my clothes ina laundrette and recoup the costs, oh I will put refer you to a dept where they look into the fault, if its manufacturers error will will take responsibilty.

Called Currys again as they didnt call me back in the 48 hours they said they would, I had to get a local engineer out to write a report and sent it to them for analysis before a decision would be made.

CAlled a few Engineers ... oh a call out charge will be charged.

Called Currys said looks this is daft Hotpoint will mend for £75 and they said, oh will they that is how much we would contribute. Have it mended and send us the receipt and I will get the money back to you !!


Woo hoo - always quote the Sales of Goods Act (google it wikkid bit of legislation) and you will find your applicances will be protected even if 5 years old and you have no warranty.
