Of course they were very very sorry, so sorry they chased the poor lass for miles. Very sorry as they knew if they pleaded that, they'd get away with it.
you can get a lot for £25, should be pleased

+1 yc. Idiots could have killed her, there is way to much of this kind of thing happening and nothing seems to be being done to dissuade people like this.

Sounds like a BB gun or something, probably no good in sending them down for life but they deserved a 5 year driving ban and a fine big enough to make their *rses bleed.

When you think you get fined more than double what they did for doing 5mph over the speed limit, it does wind you up.

The poor girl on the bike isn't going to be able tell if it's a bb gun or a real weapon, they should have treated it as a firearms offence in my book.
Stunned!
Not even a one off pot shot then legging it.
They're not even a couple of 12 yr olds, they're 18 for God's sake. They must be laughing their socks off.
It would be nice to think the new Home Secretary would get involved but...

£25 and a letter of apology? Bargain... Might hoof a load of crack and rob british home stores on the comedown... It'll prolly only cost about £70 by the time the courts have finished
So you get £80 for failing to display a parking ticket but only £25 for chasing and shooting someone? Jeez ... I think the judges have serious issues ...

Not judges, CPS.
Yeah shocking, Riding with Headphones on!
Wow - I imagine that 40 minutes is a long time to be shot at. I'm pretty sure if I were on a bike being shot at by anyone, I'd be able to get away from them. Maybe we could make this an .org rideout game? With a bit of planning for the various regional forums and everyone chipping in a few quid, we could have a national competition? Or maybe incorporate in to the AR10?
Hopefully she'll put the £25 towards a space navigator or buy a road map, as she could of saved 40% on the cost of her journey had she stayed of that bypass and used the A4251.

Would be organising a group of friends to dish out a far fairer punishment than the courts have if it was my girlfriend or myself that had been shot at.

£25? would probs cost more than that for her to buy a replica gun and give em a taste of their own medicine!
2 years suspended for 2 years with 200 hours community service would be the minimum i would hand out of i was a judge and that would be for people who got their recycling mixed up

How is that a sentence!? Man and we are supposed to be cracking down on fire arms and all that crap... utterly shocking failing in the system!!!!
Oh and food for thought, speeding is a worse offence than shooting and chasing someone...

Pathetic, CPS decision by the look of it.
I'd take out a private prosecution and sue for damages if it were possible

Taking the ****, don't even come close, whom ever dished that out should be sacked, and another punishment dished out, involving porridge.
hhhmmm £25 fine for hanging out a car window shooting at peeps on bikes with a bb gun. i know where i'm going to get my kicks from now on. thats cheep as chips for a nights entertainment.

There is another article about it here:

Pathetic - this should've got some community service at least, as well as a crippling fine!
Perhaps we should take some comfort from the fact that they can't claim "no previous" next time round.

So this didn't even get to court? The police decided not to prosecute and decided the fine, or am I missing some detail?
what about the £90 for not wearing a seat belt..jeez lets all go round shooting people its cheaper than paint balling or a day at Alton towers.
Agree with Electro - think if that was me I would be rounding a few my old biker mates up and paying them a visit. I know a few 'nice people. ;) Well they are nice until you get the wrong side of them..
I hope they get whats coming to them one way or another - bloody scrotes!!

You're missing some detail. The CPS decided not to prosecute, not the police. I bet that the police officers concerned were hopping mad.

Ahhh I see. It was this bit from the article linked above by shifter that makes it sound like it was a police decision:
"Police traced them from the number plate of the car and they were arrested and cautioned at Watford Police Station, where they were also ordered to pay £25 compensation to each of the victims and write a letter of apology.
Herts police has defended the decision not to prosecute the duo and said the decision was taken in consultation with the victims"

I wonder they would've done if she'd have paniced and crashed. . .my thought is they'd just sod off.
It's people like this that make people my age (18) very unwelcome in many, many areas, and it can make it very difficult to be comfortable anywhere.
I agree with the firearms sentence, or at the very least a hell of a lot of community service.

If she had crashed and been killed they would have been done for manslaughter and probably got ten years.Maybe life for murder.
Strange that exactly the same actions could get you that or a caution and a £25 pound fine.

Yep. I think that the CPS lawyer who made this decision should have had the same thing happen to him/her, then decide if it was in the public interest to prosecute
I'd also like the victim to be able to do the same to the scum that did it to her. Maybe with something a little more powerful

I want to know if the girl had "sped" to get away from someone shooting at her, in genuine fear for her life and clocked for it, would she have got a bigger fine? answered on a postcard.
My guess is yes of course.
My understanding as an avid airsofter is that using a replica fire arm, even a toy (or a bannana even if you are trying to convince someone they are being shot at), will be treated like a real fire arm.
Hell they even passed this STUPID UKARA legislation that forces all us recriational airsoft shooters to register or face criminal prosecution for guns that cost hundreds of pounds each, while chavs that are actually doing the crimes with still go and get realistic plinkers for £10 down their local market no registration, no intention of using it properly, no problem!!
And we have to paint our f****g guns bright Orange, yet you can do this and get not even a slap on the wrist as far as I'm concerened.
as said for £25 they probably see this as value for money in terms of entertainment to cost, not as a punishment at all!!
Madness.
But the CPS seem to be the culprit yet again, burn them all ffs and be done with it.
I agree that this should be seen as attempted manslaughter as it was clearly a deliberate and sustained attempt to interfere with, harrass and distract a vunlnerable road user in life threatening conditions.
The same as the idiots that jump out their car windows to shout boo as you filter past or try to happy slap you out the window, attempted man slaughter and assault imho as it's a deliberate attempt to try and cause you to swerve or react dangerously putting your life and the life or others in deliberate danger.
The worst I've seen lately is idiots in car parks who play chicken with you by throwing their doors open as you ride past to try and make you swerve (twice in the last couple of months, one MAY have been an accident, the guy that did it and yelled WAHAHAHAH at me was certailny NOT an accident)
There seems to be no end of these idiots and the things they will do "for laughs" and sentancing like this will just encourage them.

All that VCR laws, biggest load of sh*te you ever seen.
Of course a criminal wanting a replica firearm can't paint something black, they're far too stupid you know! Or even go the other way, paint your real guns bright orange :-P

I know and that's the exact reaction my 6 year old brother had when he heard about it years ago.
If a 6yr old can spot a huge gaping flaw in the plan in 3 seconds flat, how the hell does it get passed our obscenly paid politicos =p.
Stupid question I know.

It's like the terror laws. Guess what, becoming a human claymore is illegal and has been for ages!
Same with this lot, who is going to care that a black airsoft gun is illegal if you intend to rob a post office with it?!
W*nkers!!
