Bike racing is just so much safer..... for everyone!

not always I'm afraid, I saw a very similar accident at Oulton some years ago when a bike cleared the fence and killed a spectator less than 100m from where I was standing.

Bl00dy hell. They must have the pixie of luck in there pockets
The thing is that it's not a particularly obviously dangerous spot, no more so than to the right of the track as you go from T1 to cascades at Oulton park, for instance. On another day that car might have killed a dozen people, and suddenly certain popular spectator areas don't appear quite so safe any more.

the Oulton crash I witnessed was very similar. It happened in between the entrance bridge and Lodge corner on a straight with good barriers. An Aprillia RS250 minus its rider started cartwheeling until it totally cleared the fences and killed somebody. Everyone was facing the other direction towards Lodge where all the action happens.
You really need to keep your eye on things at a motor race, its amazing what a car/bike can do with enough momentum.

Too true. If ever there were a perfect, graphic, demonstration of the momentum of a large racing car it's the SEAT cup video in the op. They can end up pretty much anywhere, especially with some encouragement from another car.
A recent video of a Formula Palmer Audi crash at Snetterton:

It may have been the same person. I think it was in 2000 at a BSB meeting if I remember correctly.

A marshall died at Oulton not so long ago (3-4 years maybe) at the marshall post on the left handside before Lodge. Bike cleared the crash barrier and as there was a wooded area directly behind the post the marshall had nowhere to go.

Yeah, unfortunately I was there that day too. It was a marshal at our Wirral 100 race club meeting. The guys name was Paul Leonard, we have a trophy in his name for one of the race classes.
