Yeh ive heard great things about it and am soo looking forward to it. This is not a honeymoon but a very much needed holiday.

People say things are cheap out there, how cheap is cheap? as in, in compairason?

Head North. Once you've done Bangkok (hot stuffy full of old blokes with young thai girls), take the overnight train up to Chang-Mai. Much cooler and less touristy but touristy enough to have a good time. From there if you fancy a bit of a jaunt into the Jungles, loads of firms run trips where you walk and stay in little villages. Is pretty good stuff. Our trek started in Mai Hong Son, treking is fairly easy going and a good way to see some countryside and experience some culturally challenging toilets.

Basic choices are:-

1. Clubbing and sex-shows in BK
2. Clubbing and beaches on any of the islands
3. Chilling and beaches on the smaller islands
4. Chilling and walking up north.

Getting around in Thailand (bus/train/plane/ferry) costs very little and you can get a reasonable hotel for not much money too.

If I had three weeks in Thailand I'd spend a week diving around the Andaman Sea, a week in Chiang Mai doing cookery courses and jungle treks, and a week travelling around, maybe to Chiang Ri.

I wasn't enormously impressed with Bangkok, but that may have been due to jet lag. You'll have to make your own mind up.

Spent a week diving the Similan Islands several years back and it was amazing (although not as good as Sipidan off of Sabah).

As Mark points out- the jungle hikes up North can be a great way to get out of the city, see some remote villages etc. The hiking can be a bit demanding in that heat though, so make sure you're up for it.

Thailand can be any sort of holiday you choose really - pampered an luxurious, wild partying, or loads of culture (if you make an effort to get away from the tourist hot-spots). Just need to decide what you want to make of it.

Pack very lightly, especially if you want to move around. Anything you find yourself lacking can be bought very cheaply, and it's a hassle to move a large pack on and off buses and trains. I had a 30L pack last trip (was gone for ~8 months) and it was more than fine -even having packed my own mask and snorkel.

Taking the "local" bus between places can be a great way to mingle with the people. The'yre a bit crowded and no AC, so I wouldn't recommend it for very long journeys, but it is dirt cheap on the other hand.

3 weeks will fly by, but if you have a bit of spare time you might pop across the border into Cambodia and visit Siem Reap for Angkor Wat and Happy Pizza (extra "happy" please!) - I hear the highway is paved now so it doesn't take 8-10hrs to bus the 100kms or so like it did before

Cover up when visting temples! Long pants (or skirt/sarong) and a modest shirt are appropriate (too many people ignore this sadly).

And never diss the king.Thais are mostly Buddist and pretty laid back but they dont tolerate any negatives towards the royals.

Trip to a chemist and load up on steroids, will set you back ~£6 a box and you'll easily get £35 at a gym or so i was told earlier on today.

(Tis illegal and frowned upon)

only drink bottled water (even for brushing your teeth), it's dirt cheap thankfully.

if you're going to the north find out out if you need malaria tablets, if you do i highly recomend the more expensive ones (malarone?). i had these with no side
effects, whereas a number of my friends that i was with who had the cheaper ones had varying levels of side effects.

50% deet mosquito spray. i know it uses deet, but you'll only be using it for a short time and it's definately the best thing i've come across for keeping the blighters at bay.

i loved bangkok, but can understand why people wouldn't like it. it is very crowded, noisy and often smelly, but there are some amazing sights to be seen and the tuk tuks are mad fun. when using a taxi in bangkok make sure it's a marked taxi (you will be able to tell, they also HAVE to have air conditioning, if it doesn't they aren't a proper taxi) and make sure they put your fare on the meter (it's almost always cheaper than the price they try and set first). if they get funny about putting it on the meter then just move to another taxi (there are loads) or grab a policeman (also loads about) who are very tourist freindly and suddenly the taxi driver will behave as they should! lol.

try and get down south to one of the islands and do some snorkeling/diving. i didn't get to go myself, but i've heard it's excellent.

Avon sells moisturisers that are AMAZING at keeping mozzies at bay, and normally they feast on me.

Mr Tim, Mr Tim, You tell Mr Brian, I want to go to sleep. He wants to f***,f****,f****.

Then again Brian was going for his record of 32 in one weekend.

Nice that work use to send use to Thailand for the weekend once a month so we had left Malaysia and were in accordance with our visas.

Ahh Kolok on expenses. Happy Happy days

Nah I was working in Keletan state at the aid for arms Pergau dam scandal site near Kota Bahru. Dry, illegal to buy alcohol. so we bought beer vouchers and exchanged them for alcohol. One guy did have to go through with an islamic wedding once he recovered from his kicking from the locals. didn't bother to tell his wife about it though. So yes the trip across the border every month was interesting.

Take the wife/girlfriend to Thailand, never it is like coals to Newcastle that one.
