View Full Version : British Negativity

If you've not lived abroad for a lengthy while or don't travel on a regular basis to other parts of the world then you'll probably not have a clue what I'm going to explain next. For those who have, it should be clear.

It is REALLY starting to get to me. British negativity is at such a ridiculous level its now verging on the insidious.

As an Example, when I'm working I listen to Radio 4 (but its now the same on just about all other radio stations). When the news comes on the announcer will say something like:

"The Prime Minister has anounced the launch of the Big Society, giving more freedome to the people and releasing control to local areas"

and then in the very next breath, the bit that REALLY annoys me she'll say

"Critics have branded it a publicity exercise to take attension away from the job losses and government cutbacks"

and its the same with EVERY piece on news.

WHY do the critics have a say and the supporters don't. The initial piece of news was exactly that - NEWS, not GOOD news or BAD news! Just NEWS!

Then the "Critics", who are never actually named or substantiated, get an instant chance to rip it to pieces. There is NEVER a balance from the supporters.

Now there is some Irony in this because in the UK "NEWS" generally is now taken to be "BAD NEWS" and the evening news programs are 90%+ doom and disaster. Any rare, positive items are instantly Slashed and burned by the "Critics" having their say. But so is NEUTRAL news!

Living in the UK long term, you don't realise this is happening all day everyday and dragging the whole populous into despare. Having lived abroad for 11 years it drives me crazy and to tell youy the truth, I REALLY can't wait to leave again!

"Critics", whoever you are, please **** OFF!

Carl your post made me chuckle :)))

Greek news are only for scaremongering and spreading fear and doubt!! Comparing that to the BBC it looks like a kids story !!

Grass is not always greener on the other side...

The UK is miserable. Look at the people. Other countries seem to lead happier lifes. I partly blame our weather, long dark winters and such, but also the negative put you down attitude of the media.

But it carries on to the people. Football, prime example. We loose the football, quick bring down the flags and go on a rampage... Ignoring every other sport that Brits are doing well in. They need to cut back on the sh1te sports they are obsessed by.

Papers out to catch anyone not doing anythign legal, yet half the staff are probably on sniff anyway.

The UK and its people are very depressing. Not so much up north, people are friendlier towards each other. But as they get worse weather than us southerners, and don't like southerners, it doesn't make a friendly place for us to go either.

tbh, as lame as it is, the French are happier more pleasent people than Brits, hence why we're known worldwide for being whingers and miserable.

You missed lazy off your critique.

There is an ever growing group of doom mongerers who moan but do sod all to improve things. They, perversely, wallow in it but won't do owt to get out of it but expect others to put the solution in their hands.

So what's the solution?

Hey, they have the same North/South divide thing going on in France too ya know. The Southerners hate anything that lives in the Parisian direction, a bit like us Northerners with our 'Southern Shandy Drinkers' jokes. Generally the folk are much less ignornant the further south you go.

Anyway back to Berlins thing, why the hell do you think we want to jump ship and booger orf to the South of France? DOOOM AND GLOOOOM here mate, Peg hates living amongst fat, ignorant, miserable Halifax/Bradord folk, he loves the area as a beautiful place, but the people let it down.
My mate came from Grimbsy...yeah real Grim, to live in France, and when she has to come back on the plane to Stanstead and the nice trolley dolly says 'Welcome to the Uk, enjoy your stay' she just thinks 'Welcome to the Sh1thole that is Britain, I can't wait to go home'!!!!

I'd have to agree, there's a distinct line around the Midlands...

Im a moany person, the irony is I know this, and always feel much happier when im out of the country talking to people (or trying to) in a totally different language, making a fool of myself in the process, but having fun doing it.

England and its people do this. I went 9 days in France, not a single cursed word to any drivers. 10 minutes from Folkstone, middle lane tossers, 2 people cut me up. All I could think was "welcome back to the happy land of England"

Maybe your happy, but get on ANY train in the south east, and see thousands that arn't.

B******s to them, life is too short to follow suit. I choose my attitude and get on with it with a smile on my face. I have my bad days like everyone else but there are always options available.

You ever been out on the p*ss with some Finns? They have a properly evil winter, and they're a bunch of lunatics!

Less restrictive laws.
Better Roads
Snow during winter, not just cold/rain
More space to do more individual things, without the worry of attitude and being beaten to a pulp if you look at someone by mistake.

Flymo, whilst you may be fortunate, and have a good attitude and method of thinking, unfortunatly, not everyone does.

I try to look at the positives in life, I have to really. Like the good things this country offers, but as someones said, people expect life on a silver platter here.

I tend to agree, it pays not to listen to the news sometimes

One of the worst progs I can't stand listening to now is the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2

I sometimes watch German Tv and their news, and its nothing like our doom and gloom news, more matter of fact. How our news used to be 20years ago.

Hard to explain what I mean

I know exactly what you mean. I lived in Germany for three years. News presented matter of fact and without that seriously irritating "Analysis" of what some bloke has just said, even though you just heard exactly what he said a second before.

... same in the US and Canada. The news is the news (but may have a political slant on it depending on the channel)

and the ****ing "Critics"

Yep, without the kind of second guessing analysis of 'What might of happened if?' or 'If only' you know what I mean

Some of the daft questions I've heard on BBC Breakfast news beggar belief :smt067

As my mate said they really have dumbed down the news and treat us as idiots these days #-o

Plus there's too much news, everything is over analised.

The volcano cloud was a prime example experts here, experts there, reporters in every flippin airport. Why!

I agree, but it's almost as though that's what people want. Just look at the soap viewing figures (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/completecoverage/soapratings/). People love to watch depressing crap, where people generally do wrong by and cause sufferance unto other. It's no wonder the news put a misery twist on anything that isn't miserable, if that's what people want. I'm not a psychologist, but perhaps seeing others in a worse state, justifies their miserable excuses for a life?

We don't have a TV, although do watch some things on catch-up. the news is so depressing that I don't bother watching it. I'm not interested. Really, not interested. I'd love to live abroad, but, as it's not on my list of achievable items at this moment in time, I just do my best to avoid people, news and situations I don't want to be around. Ignorance IS bliss.

I'm going to be awkward - I don't think I agree :D
I'd say it's more balanced for offering up an opposing view. However the 'anomynous critics' does get on my tits, if they'd name a person or group I wouldn't say it was a bad thing.

I get more annoyed by them reporting absolute ********, the bbc in the morning is ridiculous it's just two ********s flirting away talking about sh1te most of the time. Then occasionally giving us the pointless input of some naive old lady by letter and then a biggoted van driver by text followed by a 'lovely photograph' what a waste of time. They also have habit of 'repeating' news, it seems to do the rounds. I googled something that was on the other day and it came up with the same story dated 2009.

They're either dooming & glooming, talking ****e or following a non-story...think I'm going to stop following the news!

A question is NOT a headline, nor should it ever be!

News is FACT not CONJECTURE!

Give me the headlines then move on. I don't need opinions or moralising of what has happened.

My daily mantra is, "every day is a nice day, it's just that some are nicer than others." After that its your problem, not mine.:)
