View Full Version : One Giant leap...
So then on this iday in 1969...Neil Armstrong became the 1st person to walk on the moon somewhere in California if you are to believe the conspiracy.
It begs the qestion as to why its never been done again, and if it has, why not televised?
Never since, apart from of course, Apollo 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17?
I find this particular conspiracy theory very depressing.
I suppose the reason why they haven't returned since the Apollo program ended, would be largely to do with money, and them not being able to find anything they didn't find in the first 6 trips.

It was a pointless and expensive exercise designed only to show the Russians that the Americans were dominant in space. Once the yanks had been a few times and the Russians and Americans joined forces funding from the Government dried up.
The americans landed 6 times and as far as I was aware they were all televised, just nobody was interested anymore. Another reason why funds were pulled.
i believe there's plans to go back...?

more importantly - my brother was hellish ill and threw up just a my mum was watching the momentous moment so she missed it!! ( hehehehe)

As fascinating as the moon is, there just seems to be lack of both public interest and funding to go back.
I dont believe its a conspiracy; regardless of the evidence presented, theres always theories about everything.
OK ok, other than all the other times they went....
Why haven't we built on the moon?
Keith, i love the hovering jeep

I think that'd be covered by the lack of funds; just think about how much it costs to support some guy living in orbit in a small metal corridor floating around in space. Have you seen the costs involved when a toilet stops working? :D

Unfortunately, the moon is just a big dead ball of rock. No green cheese, no alien monoliths, just dull, dull, dull.
As far as a permanent base up there goes it would be horrifyingly expensive because everything would need to be shipped from Earth, even air! I suspect that the only country that could afford it at the moment is China, and I think they're much more concerned with keeping order at home.
Keith.
Wouldnt it be great to get up there somehow and put some stuff up there to make them think that there are aliens, notw that would be funny!

lets be honest, no not really
must try harder 5/10
It would keep the americans happy for years. We could put a 60ft Ephagiy(sp?) of Keithd on the moon, that will confuse them

.
Thats the reason- if the public want it the politicians would grab it for there elections and the money would be found.
I've got every moonlanding, most rocket tests and astronaut training footage that was released to the public-its a travisty for human development that we haven't continued on the journey of space exploration that was prevelant in the 50's-70's.
There's gonna be a big firework getting let off tonight at mine as my way to commemorate this event-aye i'm a astro nerd:bom:

Would you not say that during that period it was as much about ego, or demonstration of power, as actual exploration? I think the journey of space exploration continues, only in less romantic and demonstrative, though far more sensible and productive, ways.

Aye a large part Sinbad was as you say ego, power etc, but when you hear the astronauts and the people who built the crafts speak their reasons for doing it are totally different to the political reasons that others had.Von Braun had his dreams of space travel long before he got involved with Adolf, he was lucky enough to see these dreams become a reality- biggest kick in the sack for me recently was Obama cancelling the constellation mission to put astronauts back on the moon before 2020-would have been moon fever all over again.
What's more impressive is on this day in history in 1904 the Trans Siberian railway was finished. 4607 miles of track. And faster to cross than from St Pancras to Ashford
I love space, and believe the landings. Also didn't that Mythbusters dispel a whole load of conspiracy theorys, like the flag waving, why the astronaughts moved the way they did etc?
Whilst I agree, its saddening that Obama cancelled the moon flights, I do look forward to man going to mars, but can't help but feel a tad concerned that they arn't coming back.
tbh, after going to the NASA place in florida, it really brings to light HOW lucky each and every flight to space and the moon really was. How they didn't suffer a more serious problem and loose a man in space really is amazing. More bodge jobs than a tarmacer starting a job at 3pm on a friday afternoon ;)

Couldnt do it now for health and safety reasons. Not enough handrails to prevent you taking off in low gravity, and they dont make strong enough sun cream for no atmosphere exposure.
And disabled access is very poor.

Also, keep your eye out for the next Orbitor mission in a few months. Only a few left, I make sure to watch each takeoff live. Something people wont get to see soon :(

I cant believe some people still believe its a conspiracy, the evidence is there, go read.
Whats more there is not even any credible evidence against it either..... blaaaaaaaaaaaaaa cant be arsed talking about it, gets on my tits like religion does lol.

Id love to see a night launch.
Buzz Aldrin has the best response to those that think the moon landings are fake

bunch o fives
Neil Armstrong ballsed up his opening line as he touched down on the moon.
The line he actually said was far better and is worldwide famous
The moon landing was also around 40 seconds from going splat against the moons surface. The fact they landed at all was a miricle.
Of course it was a hoax. No dust on the feet on the landing pod, flag waving in a airless atmosphere, rigging can be seen on many pictures, Universal logo can be seen in the reflection of Armstrongs helmet visor. its all such a con
