Sooooooooo.......just kidding, sorry GG!

The bike, and myself, made it home from my mates house, p1ssing it down with rain, thunder and all.

My wrist is now ****ing killing me, argh. It was a 4-5 min ride and I pulled the clucth in maybe 6 or 7 times.

Kept legs tight to bike, relaxed upper the whole way.

But the combination of inexperience (both riding and on this bike), the confidence knock of coming off, the wrist hurting, the rain, and concious I had no rear brake meant the journey was absolutely awful.

After a certain point I just seem to be unable to let the clutch out slowly enough to stop the bike lurching a bit, my wrist just gives.

I was so jerky and doing things I knew I shouldnt be doing, like coasting round corners, and stuff.

The can, although now ~4inches shorter, is quieter. Nothing else has been done to it....no bother, its perfect now dB wise. Loud enough to still sound nice but not too obnoxious.

Then spent the next 10 mins lifting my son on and off the bike as he was crazy excited...first time he's seen it. Then faffed about trying to get the bike cover on, all while its still raining.

SIGH

Looks like it'll be another 4-5 days before it'll be better enough. DAMMIT.

At least my baby is home now.

Peace.

get a wrist support for a while

Support bandage or strap may help. On a long ride a while back, I had to use a support bandage on my right wrist and it stopped the pain right away.

Haha, probably jinxed myself now.

I don't think a wrist support will help, as my wrist isn't hurting from bending
... It's hurting from pulling the clutch with ma fingers

A wrist support may help or may delay it. Depends what's up with it, you don't want to give support at a cost of allowing all the minor muscles to weaken

Now the pain killers have kicked in all I want to do is get back on the bike...

Alas I'm already tucked up in bed and can't be arsed to gear up. Plus it's dark and wet ;)

I seriously need to build confidence in cornering in the wet. I remember I used to be able to get silly lean on my ped, but on the sv I just feel like I'm going to come off.

Hoping it's dry tomorrow, I'll take the bike to the office in barnet. Seriously need more saddle time.

Mates want me to go Streetfighter Sunday in Wembly and right now I don't know if my confidence us going yo interfere and ruin the ride.

Good effort mate. Take it slow and steady and you will get your confidence back up!

Don't rush things with your wrist, what did you break?

I found a foam stress ball thing was great for getting things moving again.

Razor - point taken. I'm not really whining tho, just looking for thoughts in general on the whole situation

MBK - I feel like my riding skills have/are going backwards rather than forwards. Frustrating! Not s
at all how I planned.

YC - nothing broken in the end I think. Hospital said they would write if further checks by a consultant warranted it. Was told to go to a follow up appointment today if it still hurt as much as it did last week, but it doesn't so I cancelled it.

Reckon I'll pick up a stressball tomorrow.

You got lucky. I broke basically everything in the general area except for the bones which normally get broken!

You need to stop getting frustrated with it and concentrate on job in hand. Dissect your riding into chunks. If you're going "aaaargh why isn't it working", it won't.
Stopping being a whinging b*tch is a good start there! ;)

So, feels crap in the wet. Why? Is the front tyre worn? Have you got your pressures right? Is the suspension set for a heffer? Are you too tense?
Don't tell me you have "an issue", tell me exact issues and fix them one by one.

slow is smooth, smooth is fast

Stop wanking;)

You mustn't let a minor off affect your confidence to that extent. That's left brain messages overriding right brain. Say 'self, I can do this, I am going to do this, I have done it before and there is no reason why I can't do it again' etc. Can you adjust the lever so that it doesn't hurt so much to use the clutch? Like reducing the span needed, and possibly dropping or raising the lever on the bar till you find a comfortable position?

Lol, sorry. Getting wound up, and expressing probably a little too much on the webz. Bad habit.

Please bear in mind I have had access to the bike 2 times so far. Ride home and ride hoem from mates after crash!

YC:

Front Tyre is worn, but I'm not sure how much tread is left (cant judge it, no gauge).

Not checked pressures, I'll do that today at some point.

Suspension set for heffer: not a clue. I remember seeing 2 notches on the front and I dont know how to tell how far the back is wound...I was actually waiting til I see Mark saturday to ask him!

Am I too tense...I dont -think- I am as I made a very concious effort to grip the tank with my knees to keep weight off my wrist.

Ed: Wrong hand! But yeah I know, nothing but saddle time/experience will help me get that confidence back. I guess I could adjust to the biting point is further away from the bar, less distance to squeeze. As for position, they are ok where they are, dont feel too high/low.

I have ordered a new clutch cable anyway to see if that will lighten it up a tad. If there turns out to be nothing wrong with my current cable then I'll keep it as a spare.

If it were me I would change the front tyre for peace of mind. If it looks worn enough for you to not know if it is legal then surely dropping £90 odd on it is worth it?

Or borrow a tyre guage and check?

Relax grasshopper and ride safe, remember the golden rule, always ride for yourself.

New front tyre is amongst the first on my list to replace, but alas, cashflow right now is impossible.

Hopefully should be sorted in a week or so.

Thanks :)

Could you not get a part scrubbed one for the meantime?

hongman

Hadnt even thought of that.

I'll do some googling this afternoon!

Pinch some of your sons plasticine and squeeze it in your hand, my consultant told me it was one of the best ways to get things moving again.

Worn front tyres can feel terrible in the wet. They have most of the grip there it just doesn't feel like it has.

Now you know this, it is not a problem any more.

Good idea!

lol YC.

I have only been on the bike for around 2hrs 15 mins total, I reckon it'll all come back with a couple decent rides. When my wrist is better that is.

Thanks
