Just bought oxford sports panniers, tank bag and tail pack, second hand off ebay, after closer inspection the base which zips onto the bottom of the tail pack is missing. Just wondering if this is how its supposed to be, can you buy them separately and will this effect how it can be secured to my bike.
Also i have no bungees, i guess i need them, but how many and how long?

Thanks

Not sure about the base, but if you go to Halfrauds, you can get 10 assorted length bungees for under a tenner. Cheaper in hardware stores too :-)

They've changed throughout the years, but I have a tailback base at home that I bought thinking I could convert my tankbag to a tailpack. Unfortunately it's either the wrong year or the tailpacks just use different zips - it's a much coarser zipper than on my tankbag. It's been sat on top of a cupboard for about 3 years and it's silver.

I'll take some pics when I get home. If it looks right, you can have it for postage.

Take a pic of the tailpack Stacey and we'll probably be able to tell you if the base is supposed to be there.
Mine is this one

Is it one of those tailpacks that can be used as a tankbag as well then depending on the base? Here is a separate 'tailbag' base that can be bought separately:

OK thanks for the replies, this is what i have. infact after looking at it again it is the same as the tank bag, only that has the base, so im thinking its a universal one. however do i still need a base on it?

Is the tankbag magnetic or does it strap to the tank? I think you have this and therefore need the tailpack base at £15 also here for it.

Edit - Or you could probably manage without the base and just put it on the pillions seat and use 4 bungees (one for each of the D-rings on the bag) and attach it to the bike just using them. Normally, tailpacks also have a seatbelt type strap which goes under the pillion seat and velcros together underneath it, but with enough bungees it should be safe enough without that as long as there isn't too much weight in it.

The tankbag has straps on it. i think il get some bungees on the weekend and give them ago first, see how they do the job. thanks for the links, ill see how i get on. :)

Don`t know if it helps at all Stacey but I was looking at one of those bags the other day in a bike shop. I think that what you have can be used as either a tank bag or tail pack? if its the same as the one I was looking at then there was only one base which you removed if you were using it as a tank bag. If using it as a tailpack there were straps that you would use to secure it around your rear seat and the straps tucked really neatly into the side of the bag. However the straps could be removed completely so i`m wondering if that`s the case with what you`ve bought?
