The re-casting as it has been done works.

One alternative casting I once saw was to take the cast of 3 Kings and add Jim Carey as Murdock to Clooneys Hannibal, Wahlbergs Face and Ice-Cubes BA.

Not sure about liam neeson, im a big fan of his but its not my image of hanibal.

Pvt Walker from Dads Army as Face cos he's got the same mad pikey skills.

No, really.

...I almost went with Bender from Futurama but Oldman has more range.
