Anybody got any experience of dealing with probate?

My wifes father died this week and because he's assests are worth so much her mum has to go through the probate process, even though he has a will

I don't know anything about it, neither does my wife or her mum

Any tips

Probate is simple if the affairs have been left tidy. We have a family friend who does it as a retirement earner. But he is a former senior inland revenue guy and used to dealing with the complexities.

I.E, all accounts identified, pensions, savings, assets etc.

Otherwise probably safer to employ a specialist

Yes, big time :-(

Probate is a simple process which is concerned with assigning legal right to administer your father-in-law's estate. Nothing to be afraid of - very simple in this case, especially if there isn't a will.

Well, I think things are pretty straight forward, as there is a will.

It has to go to probate because of the size of his assests, although we're not talking about humungous amounts. The amount that falls below probate are pretty small

I'll wait to see if Ed's about, no rush
