Went for a nice long ride yesterday and noticed that I have about 1mm left on my front tyre before it hits the limit :s any recomendations on what to get? I would like something that is going to last quite a long time but will also provide good grip around corners. Any advise is more than welcome. Thanks everyone.

The Pirelli Angels get excellent reviews as well - it's either the Pirellis or the Avons for me depending on price and availability.

Match it with what ever you have on the back or replace both tyres

people say to match, i've still got a almost new d220 rear that previous owner had fitted and the 7 year, 6K mile front d220 is looking a bit tired

so i was gonna fit a front road smart and then when the rear was due, also a rear road smart, at least they're both dunlops...

got a contental road attack on the rear. Is the front one any good? Or does it not really matter about matching. Cant afford to replace both at the moment and the rear is more or less brand new.

When the decision isn't made for you by the circumstance, (unlike this time), all modern tyres are better than the riders that use them, buy the ones that suit your pocket/are on sale near where you live/you think the tread of which is pretty, etc etc.

BT014 or the 016 if the 014 is already extinct. Fronts last for ever so don't worry about mileage. More grip than you'll ever need, good feedback etc.

New Road Attack under the circumstances. Nice tyres those. Next change - see what's available because they just keep improving. At this mo, Roadsmarts give great life in addition to grip.

I have Michelin PR2s on mine, good grip, dual compound so should last a while without squaring off if doing alot of Mway riding, good dry grip and great wet grip.

It is a good question that, I have often wondered about larger tyres on standard rims. Would like to know the answer myself :)

faster turn in and more selection of rubber if going to a 70 profile, Generally improved handling. fatter rubber makes the bike turn in slower and can have clearance issues at rear.

Best to stick to the 120F and 160R

does this apply to a k8 sport?

yep! both gens run 120 60/17F and 160 60/17R stock
a lot of people are starting to run 70 profiles as the 60 profile seems to becoming obsolete in sports and supersport rubber.

Alot of newer bikes run a 120 70/17 front and anything upwards of a 170 70/17 rear

For the original post I'd put a new 120/60R17 Continental Road Attack on the front, it'll match the rear.

There is some discussion about using a 120/70R17 front tyre. I've used both, they're a little different, but neither is ultimately "better". As I'm sure you're aware the 70 profile tyre is taller than the 60 profile, but not wider. This tends to lead to a pointier profile, and a different feel. While a 70 profile may ultimately have more contact patch at full lean, that's not to say it does at all points in the turn in or that you will prefer the feel. Different manufacturers make tyres with different dimensions with the same numbers written on the side anyway.
