Have a scorpian can on sv, will taking the baffle out increase fule consumption and decrease performance?

Perhaps.Try looking in the Tuning and Tweaking section

Hasnt made any difference to mpg/performance on mine......just makes it sound better :D

I'm not an expert, so feel free to disregard my random mumblings...

The valve overlap (time when inlet and exhaust are both open) is chosen by the manufacture based on some assumptions about exhaust back-pressure. In theory, increasing the gas flow through the exhaust could pull fresh mixture straight through the cylinder and into the exhaust, which would affect fuel economy.

However, the baffle is a long way from the engine and doesn't make enough difference to the airflow. So removing it makes no practical difference to performance and economy. The only difference I noticed when I took mine out was a slight tendency to stall when pulling away at low revs. Easily cured by keeping the revs up a bit or leaving the baffle in after the MoT.

Just my thoughts,

Keith.

in theroy as the end can is for noise dampening it shouldn't have an adverse affect if its the right bore for the sv.

Stripping out the baffle will change the back pressure as the end can in effect becomes a expansion chamber (like on a 2 stroke) but should not have an adverse effect.

my stock exhaust's baffle has degraded with age and is effecting overall back pressure so requires removing or replaced!

you'll get approx 20 extra horse power and you'll be able to do 150 mph flat out with the baffel out,and you'll use more fuel because your able to go faster than ever.

I'm only kidding though- shouldn't make much difference but my bike feels as if it runs better with baffles in.

that what i thought!
mine doesnt sound right and i know that the engine and box are fine
the exhaust sounds like it is trying to push something out the way

I have a Scorpion exhaust and have experimented myself, didn't notice a difference... I love the sound so leave it out.

No resonating shape, no stinger to set up return pressure waves... just a pipe. How's that an expansion chamber?

bad analogy chris. Acoustic would have been better

I really doubt it. There would have to be serious running issues with the rest of the bike to coke one up enough to do that.

sounds like a wet fart in the bath the exhaust. Needs replaced for a better end can

Any standard can does. If you think this is causing a running issue then you are either fooling yourself or there's something else going on.

probably the former as the bikes just been properly serviced.

Come down here, I have a scruffy but very loud and very straight-through stubby can you can have, £30 fitted.
