Someone already explained they, just missed one step.
1.Walk to the top of the nearest hill, or climb on to your house roof to get reception.

I've never needed instructions on home to make a phone call on a phone before... Most are just 'intuitive'.
it makes calls too? holy crap, I've had it for ages and didnt know it could do that.

Iphone4 has given me the best signal i have ever had, lost of 3g in places i only used to get edge and down at my partents i used to have to go near a windo or out side to get a decent signal, now i can make calls from inside the house, despite the totally blown out of proportion antenna problem which every phone has http://www.apple.com/antenna/ i haven't dropped one call or had any interference to date ;)

nah if you have a 3g's then you can get a little close but on the 3g it just makes things slower.
nah if you have a 3g's then you can get a little close but on the 3g it just makes things slower.
Can you explain a little more please?
So are you saying 4.0.1 doesn't do anything for me & I should downgrade to an iOS 3?
Also another problem
WiFi has never worked on my iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.1
I have never been able to connect to the WiFi in my home.
I set up the WiFi at home and know the password. I've never had any difficulty connecting other phones like Blackberry, samsung etc. or any laptop.
The phone is a mates old 3G that he didn't have any problems connecting to WiFi. But he was with o2 on a Data plan. When I took the phone to an o2 shop they said I need a data plan or the WiFi would not work. I thought that was rubbish so I got o2 to unlock it (which they did for free https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form) and got a GiffGaff sim which I've now got fully working except the internet is so painfully slow that I was hoping that WiFi might be quicker.
Many thanks

all you got with a IOS4 on the 3g was spell checker and folders I think and a slower system.
you carnt revert back to an earlier OS version unless you backed up your SSH blobs and i doubt you did this as its not something you do via i-tunes.
as for you wifi you must be doing something wrong, the charters are case sensitive remember.
i think the o2 shop was referring to wifi hotspots around the country.

OK, if I can't downgrade, I'll ignore that. So how does the spell checker work? If I type guildf a box comes up with guildford in it but when I try to click it doesn't complete the word. :???:

Not really, it's 4 times the size of an iPhone, but it's not much more expensive amirite?
It's just that the iPhone comes with a contract instead of a £500 up front cost

I agree the iphone 4 is a tad over priced too, but i think its very much more useful, alot of features comparable to most other phones, all within in nice small package.
I'd never take out a contract, I buy them outright, works out considerable cheaper for me.

you can get the low spec one for 430 why does every one think its 600-700 ?
I like Marmite... I did't buy a iPhone as I couldn't justify the cost then reading all the user annoyances pushed me even further away. Then reading a 7 page thread on how to call someone makes me even more glad. Some people might say it just the users, but I thought the point most people love the iPhone is cus it made things so much easier. I'll stick to my Nokia, its slow sometimes, but at-least it works and was nice and cheap.

A phone is a phone---for the other bits I have a PC.
I like where it says in the advert for the i-phone that the sequences are speeded up so that it gives the impression of being super efficient.
Expensive toot
