View Full Version : Am I a bad person???

Whilst out in the car this morning I came round some bends then right after this corner it goes from a 50 to 40 limit. Right at this point a few of the older locals were setting up a speed camera under the guise of community speedwatch. What sort of power do these people have?
Now back to my point if I was speeding on my bike I would have been very tempted to pull over tell these blokes what I thought of them and proceeded to launch the speed camera down the bank, does that make me a bad person?

Not much.
If I remember correctly, they might take down a reg number and pass it to the police, who may then send an advisory letter. That's about the extent of it. I doubt very much that their monitoring could lead to a conviction/fine.
Edit:
I did remember correctly :-D

I don't understand why you'd get so upset about them being concerned about speeding traffic in their neighbourhood? Certainly a better option than the police setting up a radar trap
yes! but not for that... ive seen your dancing!! lol

Bunch of f*cking muppets with too much time on their hands trying to save the world from people doing 31mph.
I've had them motioning for me to slow down on the bike when going through a village in north wales which is a fooking NSL. I was doing 55
They're only concerned about speeding traffic in their village in the same way they're "concerned" about noise from the railway they bought a f*ckin house next to, or "concerned" about the next door neighbors curtains or "concerned" that flour isn't the same colour it used to be.
There's only a finite number of plod, and they'll be off setting up a radar trap somewhere else.

Hmm, chucking the speed camera down an embankment might be classed as criminal damage, and chucking the nimbys down after it is probably common assault. Fortunately, no points on the license for either of those. :smt084
Though it would be more entertaining to suggest that they move to somewhere people will actually be interested in their results. Like outside the local biker pub... (standing quarter mile with radar speed measurement anyone??) :smt077

Just really annoyed me, as much as i hate speed cameras thats what the police get paid for.
Why dont they have burn the chavs, or forcefully evict drug dealers partnership? That would make every much nicer.
Oi Rhys iv got the moves

they do the leg work, if a lot of speeders are out then its ground for the police to come and enforce,
to be honest in residential areas I wish they would do it my way, just because you can see the de restriction sign does not mean you need to be doing 80 when you go past it.

Similar setup in our area pointed a radar gun at me, I laughed at them I was on my pushbike and they still checked my speed. They looked a bit shocked when it told them I was going over the speed limit.
I like to try and set off those little speed indicator LED signs they put up in villages on my push bike as well. My mate holds the record for one in a village near us 44mph :D
I dont mind them TBH, if it makes people slow down around town and through villages without resorting to handing out fines willy nilly then I dont see it as a bad thing.

What? Is it optional???
Around here the NSL sign divides cagers into two groups.
* Group A -these drivers will continue at 42mph in their Nissan Micra, winter or summer, whatever the speed limit signs say.
* Group B - For the Audi drivers the NSL sign indicates that a minimum speed 60 must be maintained at all times.

I'm gonna get flamed probs but hey ho.
Yes they are busy bodies but ultimately I think that they are doing a good job and should be commended for their community spirit.
If it's a thirty that means there's the potential for kids about. Speeding is a no no. End of...
The national speed limit sign at the end of the village is the cue for play time and not before.

AARRRGH! I hate that. I stopped an old guy for it once, he did 45 in the NSL road and then continued at 45 in the 30's. When I told him I was stopping him because of his speed he said "I don't ever speed dear, I always drive at 45mph." My response "yes, but the speed limit is now a 30mph one..."

Stop being so mean!
Smile and wave at them, the poor old codgers dont have much to do after they have watered their allotments in the morning.
Perhaps take them a nice flask of tea ....
and before you ask, Im not suggesting that you put anything in their tea to 'spice up their day'..no, I would never do that!

I agree Grant..
I would do the same if I lived in a small village with kids and bikes.cars kept flying through ..
near us is a lovely small country road with a few houses on and the road is a rat run as it cuts out a 2 mile round trip.. both me and mand have had "police" letters after being zapped by the locals .. 37 in the 30 .. would have been points and pounds so
1 it did us a favour
2 it cetainly stops us both "speeding" through there now ..and we use it often
hard to quantify just what good it does as the savings are unseen , the savings could be a life .. or £ in your pocket.
just be thankful it is the locals and not the bobbies

I'm with Fizz, Blue Flame and Quiff on this one. It's not going to result in points or fines, so leave them be...they are doing a good job. The place we lived before moving where we are now had a 40mph busy road right outside, going round a bend and up hill. Cars would regularly hit 70-80 going past our house. I even went to the police station and offered them the use of the top of our garage to set a camera up.
I could see it happening. Dan coming home from work on the bike, having to turn across the road to get to the garage and BANG...being wiped out by some idiot doing 80 in a 40. I saw lots of near misses and there have been lots of accidents on that road, anyone that ever stayed with us will know what I mean. I would have welcomed the oldies doing something there....school children walking home, cyclists everywhere, lots of concealed entrances.....40mph was plenty for that road.
