My contract is up in 2 months but i can upgrade on the 8th of August.
Probably gonna get a iphone tbh, but what other phones are available around the same spec which i can consider.
Not keen on getting iphone4 as the crap with the signal thing has put me right off.
I also detest apples sticky plaster fix with the case, it looks ugly and i dont want it, they are also out of stock.

Suggestions please...

Dont wanna start a whole new debate on the iphone, just suggestions i can look at.

Just look at every other iThread (there are PLENTY of them). All the suggestions you could possibly want are already there.

just get a 3gs instead of the 4, the only real benifit on the 4 is the camera to me, so if you can live with the 3gs camera wich has no flash but otherwise is ok, htc is about the only other worth looking at, just do a search for smart phones and compare them, but the iphone is just so easy to use, tothers still can't beat it imo.

i went from the 3g to the iphone4 and trust me its a big improvement,
just the multitasking alone does it for me not to mention the screen when i look at a 3g screen now it looks all pixelated all colours look washed out.
you carnt get an income Skype call or msn message without the app being open app on a 3g. and its x10 faster.

I'm un-subscribing from this thread now as im not going threw the same debate as every other mobile phone threadi normally get involved with ;)

Aha, that's why i said to me, skype don't use it, don't need it, just use the included mins, never go over. I admit the screen may be better but what you have never had you never miss, at least that's what i keep telling myself. edit you still get the multi tasking on the 3gs, so that includes most of the new stuff that the 4 has.

If you're considering getting an Iphone 4, consider the fact that it may be cheaper to buy pay as you go and get the 30 day simplicity plan than to actually get one on contract!

My wife has the 3Gs and i use that a bit so know a bit about using one.
She hasnt had any problems with hers at all.
The ipnone4 would win apart from the signal drop thing, i cannot stand that stupid thing they call a case to stop the problem, what a crap soilution that is, cant understand why the 3gs doesnt have that problem but the 4 does???

it does !! all phones have it if you hold around the antenna the phone works perfectly fine with or without bumper for me anyway no droped calls or quality issues what so ever . i can make my work nokia 2323 drop to one bar. as well as my partners blackberry . go in the iphone4 thread and ask all the owners none of us are having problems.

It was just a bit of a bandwagon that people jumped on; the new IOS 4.0.1 apparently reflects signal strength more accurately.

Then again, if i spent £500 on a phone, id be a bit gutted if the signal supposedly dropped because of the way i held it.

Regardless, they are the best phones around!

Should Get a nice cheap deal for the 3GS now as the 4 is the main attraction now. I am well happy with my 3GS.

Just don't touch anything running Windows Mobile, it's not fit for purpose.

I know, i had a XDA, which was a pain.
Ok as a mobile internet thingy, crap as a phone.

I quite like the experia x10 borrowed one a couple of weeks ago it was a good phone still getting an iPhone but it's a decent phone if I was going on contract that's what I would choose I think but 150 for an iPhone and go contract is to hood of a deal

Nice to see everyone NOT REDING THE OPS REQEST. He doesnt want to join the Cult that is Apple, or Iphone.

The other top phones on the market at the moment are the HTC Desire, Samsung Wave/Galaxy S, the new Sony X10pro mini or a Nokia N series. It all comes down to what you use your phone for. THEre are no real decent candy bar phones any more and everything seems to have gone touch screen.

Best phone I've ever had, and without paying silly money for the latest Apple i-phone.

Lol The iphone 4 signal attentuation is significantly worse that other phones its a fact, and in low signal areas there will be a diffference.

HTC Desire ALL THE WAY!!!

Get an unbranded one for £300 with 3 year warranty and now that Android 2.2 Froyo is out you will be more than surprised at how much better and faster it is from the iPhone.

I'm not an Apple hater, I had an iPhone but the Desire is much better!!!

Thanks for input so far peeps, i will look at the others suggested, as beabert said, i live in a medium to low signal area and if i got a iphone 4 and it kept dropping signal i would launch it out the window.

I am leaning towards the old 3gs as my wife has one and its ok tbh.
But im a rough ar5e builder so any phone will probably be wrecked in no time.

I have a Nokia X6 and for calling, texting, email, Facebook/Twitter/Cricket scores/news etc it's fine. You don't have access to 10,000 fancy apps like the i-phone but then do I really need a light sabre noise? I have the essential app though - a scrabble game. And the rubber case and screen protector I got for it means I haven't been able to trash it yet.
