I've been wanting a couple more lobe piercings for a while but I'm not sure it's a good idea when I'm taking a lid on and off. How many of you have got new ear piercings during your biking time, did it prolong the healing process, should I just not bother and stop being vain?
And I know cartilage piercings take a lot longer to heal but I don't fancy one of those anyway, too much of a wuss lol.
Cheers :-)

it's not as bad as a price albert and tight undercrackers ;)

A tight fitting helmet can rub on them a bit, but as long as you keep them clean and turn them every day, they should be OK. Answer though is this, get it done, if it still hurts after a couple of weeks, then they are not healing and just whip them out.
My Neck bar never healed and the bike lid pressing on it infected it nicely. In the end, a friend helped me pull it out with pliers. Never had a problem again after that. :smt078
I currently have three rings in my left ear and two in my right, but have removed five ear rings, one eye brow ring and one neck bar to make biking more comfortable. :smt110
when I got my ears pierced again I used tomake sure I wore a neck tube and pulled it up over my ears before putting on the helmet. didnt have any problems

Ive never had a problem with either however it did ruin me white ones when i had it done. I had to show everyone in the pub i'd started my monthlys ;)
As for the OP you could just loosely cover with a cheap plaster just to minimalise movement when the lids going 'on/off' . Just make sure you clean piercing (salt water etc) after wearing the lid to help prevent infection (warm and damp lid = perfect environment for bacteria)
dont let it put you off, it can easily be removed

Seen lots of female bikers doing this, this is what Sandrine does too.

This sounds like a plan and one I'm ok with! I wasn't sure whether it was a good idea but will go ahead I think anyway and as Jayne says, just see how it goes for the first few weeks :)

Well MYC! I got my upper ear pierced about a week ago! I am told to leave the bar the piercer put in for 16 weeks. It's long and thick, and any contact is painful (getting less painful though).
I own a full-face, tight helmet, so at the moment I'm using another open-face helmet, which puts no pressure on my ears at all. I will wear this open-face until the 16 weeks are up and I can get a smaller bar through it. I would recommend doing the same, respective to lobe-healing-time!

Cheers ATB. I don't think I'll be getting an open face lid just for a lobe piercing though, I think I should manage ok with just keeping it covered. After all it will be my own fault if I'm in pain :-P
Barwel, why would you pierce your own cartilage? Are you a practicing piercer? Lol. I wouldn't dare!

Ha, thought I'd look this thread up as I've still not done anything about it, where did two years go! Just found out my local place uses only titanium for new stuff, I've become overly sensitive to some silvers so feel a bit better about titanium. I'm only gonna go for the earlobes doing again, cartilage would just take too long. Any more tips about care on't bike much appreciated mind! :)

Going back to your first post all dem years ago when we was nippers and I hadn't even discovered the ORG, I choose 'stop being vain'. Personally the only time I notice a woman's earrings is when they either look stupid, or they stab me in the face (or other body part) during some sort of love making ritual. If you really feel the need to bling up your head, might I suggest some sort of hat.

I has both my Tragus' and my Conch pierced while I was using my bike daily.
Mine healed with no problem although it was slightly sore getting the helmet on and off.
I wore a neck tube over my ears and had to adjust my helmet once on so it wasn't squishing my ears.
If you are just getting your lobes pierced then it shouldn't be a problem.
Stop being such a girl! :p ;)

A friend of mine lost an ear piercing recently when while riding with an open face lid in very cold conditions the bottom of his very stretched ear lobe got frost bite. He was really upset, he had been stretching said hole for a while. :(

Agreed, neck tube is the way. I still wear a few ear rings and recently was given some lovely big hoops by my Mother in Law (no, not chavvy tin hoola hoops painted in fake gold before any of you ask!).
I have heard very good things about Titanium when used as piercings, due to it not being reactive. Have you also tried Surgical steel? Some people get on fine with this, others don't and I think it is because of the nickle content of the steel, but could be wrong having been misled by a dirty hippy who insisted that "steel is bad man!" :smt040

Haha, you just tried to tell a female that there was no point to her trying to improve how she feels about herself...FAIL. :smt040
MM, the words I wanted to hear, I shall get on with it post haste my good lady ;)
Jayne, I had my lobes done with silver cos I can't stand gold...there vanity really was a bitch cos they opened the gates to infection and took ages to heal. Happy with titanium.

:p It's such a waste of time though! To feel better about yourself you need other people to lift you. The first time I meet you Maria, I'd be far more impressed by a witty story, a perfectly hummed melody, or a silly dance than a pair of earring. But I accept that we all feel the need to improve/modify our appearances. Right now I am seeing what I look like with a bit of a beard. Not good ... not good at all.
So if you don't want to strive for improvements in your repertoire of jokes, melodies or dances, and you absolutely must try and lift yourself by changing your physical appearance, might I suggest a boob job? But natural looking ones - none of this straining skin stretched over a grapefruit style rubbish.

I'm not a girly girl so rarely spend money on making myself feel better appearance wise, I only get my hair cut cos I start to resemble a Highland coo/old english sheepdog with a shaggy fringe....I don't wear much makeup apart from eyeliner which I'll probably take to my grave so the if the occasional odd permanent low maintenance feature like a piercing makes me feel better then why not. Tisn't like I want to be able to make airport scanner things go crazy with the amount of metal stapled all over... I don't necessarily need it to "lift" me, just want another couple of holes to put bits of metal through (I have a large collection of earrings and not all are getting used!). I'm a magpie you see.

Make up is overrated too. I feel cheated by make up. Let me know what I'm buying before I buy it. Sometimes I feel like I should bring facial cleansing wipes to a first date so there are no surprises later on down the line when she can't be arsed any more. :D
You go for your earrings. You know I'm only playing! :) I'm just getting old and opinionated on such matters. On the subject though, I can't wear moulded ear plugs without my helmet pulling on them when I try and remove it and stabbing my ears, so I understand the issue. Damn ears. :)

But what about the carrot orange car paint I use to make myself look healthy and sun tanned? Would you have me wash that off too? :smt019
Actually I have wondered for a while now if it was KTM who developed the spray tan as a way to make their range of bikes sexier. After all, having a girlfriend who colour coordinates with the bike can be an advantage, especially if rider and pillion do the colour matched leathers too!
Being an ugly (honest?) dyke, I hardly ever do the make up thing unless I am going somewhere that appearing straight would be useful, like a job interview. Once hired I can turn up every morning looking like a Russian weight lifter, but up until I actually have the job, I shall be looking all demure and feminine!
Is there not a trend for many young men to be using make up at the moment too, to enhance their appearance into the freakish proportions of TV star/Essex moron that some reality shows are currently so fond of? I would love to see some of the male orgers (organs sounded too rude!) made up in such a way. Can anyone else imagine Mr Fallout wearing spray tan and nude lip liner? :smt040
Miss Flakes would like to state that she is now in hiding for fear of what the above statement will bring upon her! :smt083

Any young stud who gets a fake tan and wears make-up needs to take a good long look in the mirror. It's the only way he'll put it on properly.

I would notice the earrings, as long as it's not overdone.
Something different and still classy has that attractive, mysterious, adventurous look most people notice.
(excluding drunken males under the age of 28 or so who also don't notice what you're wearing unless it's somewhat revealing)
Jayne your post is funny as ****!
