I have finally managed to get round to fitting my renthal comfort kit coversion to my 2010 pointy. It has taken me the best part of 8 hours and has been bloody hard work. I would honestly think very carefully about doing this yourself if you only have very basic mechanical knowledge because there is a lot involved and no instructions. However if you get hold of Matt, he will send them to you. I opted for the proper way and did them without.

I also drilled the bars for the switch gear rather than snap the little tabs off. I also drilled and tapped the bar to allow the fitting of the OEM mater cylinder reservoir.

Also in answer to the post yesterday, the OEM suzuki throttle cables are not long enough to use with this kit. They prevent full lock. So you defo need the ones that come with the kit.

The main areas of time consumption were:

1. Fitting the throttle cables
2. Reassembling the air box. The throttle body rubbers are a mare.
3. Routing the HEL brake lines as they just seemed too long,
4. Spent and hour bleeding the air out of the front brakes.

Conclusion.

WOW the bike has been transformed and feels so comfy to ride. I can't believe I waited to do this. MY back and wrist pain had got so bad riding, I was actually avoiding using the bike and cycling to work. NOT ANYMORE! This really is the dogs bollox! I am so happy with it. I was about to get rid of the bike if this hadn't worked, however it will be with me for a long time now. Really Really impressed.

The bars are Renthal "Road Bike" part number 758-01-BK. They were part of the kit.

do you have to change the bars on a curvy or can you just fit the kit with the risers on to the original bars.

Hows it to ride with this kit? Is there a little less feel or attack that you notice?

I know it's done for comfort purposes, but personally I think faired bikes without clip ons look awful!

Glad you're happy with it though!

Crikey, that's a large increase in the size of the yoke, but somehow it still looks good with it. Black bars look nice too, tie in with everything else on the bike...which is black.

Any reports on how much different it is to ride with wide bars?

Glad your a fan lol. I was of the same opinion as I have always owned sports bikes. However the comfort factor came into play. I couldn't ride 40 miles without being in agony. IT came to the point that I wasn't using the bike as it was even hurting on my 10 mile trip to work. So I bit the bullet and did this. It was either this or flog the bike, which I really didn't want to do!

Glad you like it, just a couple of points:

I would rather it wasnt called a renthal comfort kit as i make it and i spend alot of time doing so, so i think it is really a 998cc.com comfort kit using renthal bars - being picky i know!

Also you get free barends and grips with the kits at the moment, although my supplies of these are running low so that offer will have to stop soon then they will have to be bought as an extra, another £15

Looking very good. I think I'll order mines very soon as I'm thinking of starting touring a bit.

I was wondering how the mirror visibility is affected with the raises handlebars?

It isn't affected at all. It's the same. Although I do have Chewy's mirror spacers on.

I had no problems with the mirrors while riding Speedy Claire's bike with the comfort kit installed. 20 miles of twisties, 30 miles of motorway and 4 miles in the city was a good test.

IAlthough I do have Chewy's mirror spacers on.

That's actually a very good idea since the new bars a wider and I tend to gauge the width of the bike when filtering by the mirrors. Not to mention my biggest fear of hitting something in the blind spot.

I've placed the order anyway, and now researching some other touring bits like a better screen (MRA Vario anyone?), lower pegs and maybe a gel seat.

I've had this kit fitted for a month or so and it is indeed a superb modification to the Pointy S.

I expected it to make the bike a more relaxed/subdued ride. Not at all, if anything the bike feels like it wants to 'play' everytime I swing my leg over it. The bike is so much more responsive to steering input, it tips into corners beautifully. Being more upright means that your view is so much better. Low speed manouverability is much better too. The only slight downside is a bit of wind blast at high speeds, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it makes you realise that you are doing license losing speeds.

Nor me on mine and im 6'1".
I would recommend a taller screen though, a high db one as this was the only small downside for me.

Is the kit reversible back to clipons if you don't like it? You dont have to mangle any parts to fit it?

Can't wait for mine to arrive cos I'm 6'1 and I did 155 miles in one hit on Saturday and it half killed me!:(:(

Now if I can just sort a comfy seat! :smt035:smt035

I have ordered a Sargent seat from the USA. It is being delivered on a donkey, but I am assured when it does eventually get here it will be awesome.
