X and Y were the model names of the years 99 and 2000 I believe, but I haven't heard of problems with them rotting before. As far as I know the earlier model bikes (ie up to 2002) have interchangeable parts, but don't quote me on it. It'll probably be quiet on here over the weekend as it's the Annual Rideout, but someone useful will get back to you sometime next week.

The Suzuki model designations for the carb model bikes from 1999 to 2002 were X, Y, K1 and K2 for naked bikes and SX, SY, K1 and K2 for the faired "sport" model. Petrol tanks from any of these models will fit your carbed bike.

I don't know how common it is but some have had a problem with the water drain rusting through. If you open your petrol cap you'll see a small hole on the left hand side. This drains any water or spilt fuel that collects under the cap. In some instances this drain has become blocked and the collected water causes the pipe to rust through, leading to water in the fuel.

I'm not aware of any design changes to the tank from the X to the K2 so in theory any carbed bike tank could have the problem. It's been a problem for some but certainly not most. Neither of my SV's suffer from it.

if you search regarding the block drain there will be info regarding it.
My tank has spot rust internally and externally i'm not concerned.

Like bear said a lot of the usual suspects are packing their bikes for AR and 3 days of drinking

All Curvies, that is; carb model bikes, have the same tank.

The tank from the fuel injected bikes, 2003 onward, are not a swap for early bikes.
