I doubt they would have gotten away with it so lightly had it been some other countries flag or symbol.

You beat me to it Matt !!

One of my pet peeves (how ever ridiculous it may seem to others) is the almost constant misuse of the name Union Jack.

Right, almost as annoying as displaying them upside down.....

*"'Union Jack' was officially acknowledged as an alternative name for the Union Flag by the Admiralty and Parliament in the early 20th century

A US Marine colour guard  carried the Canadian flag upside down at the opening ceremony of a World Series baseball game between Toronto and Atlanta. Short of wiriting "This Way Up" it's pretty hard to mistake on that flag.

To their credit the Marines requested (and were granted) the opportunity to get it right at the next game of the series in Toronto. It sure pi$$ed off a lot of Canucks in the interim though.

Didn't they do it at the 1996 Olympics too? OOH RAH!

The Toronto Star did a great editorial cartoon of it... the Iwo Jima marines putting the flag up (upside down) while one is reading an atlas and reading what's happened.

Been over in Northern Ireland for few days, and I've seen more union jacks in an hour than I have in years back home. Happy to report that I've not spotted an upside down one.

I certainly do, why fly it at all if you're not going to ensure it's the right way up? It's our nation's flag, represents us all, why not show it the common decency of flying it correctly?

You can use either term...there is no right or wrong. Flags can't be racist.
