Hello all,

I'm due to take my DAS in october and need a bit of help regarding my first big bike.

Iv been offered a k8 with 8500 miles for £3300 at a dealer, is this a reasonable price to pay. Also being 6'4" is a sv650 going to be too small for me. Unfortunately I work away in the highlands so no chance of having a seat on one anytime soon.

Any advice would be grand :D

Personally mate i think the sv will be too small for you, i felt it too small for me a little bit and im 3 inches less tall.

I think that price sounds about right from a dealer, always haggle though.

I'm 6' 4" or thereabouts and don't have an issue with it feeling small or being uncomfortable, although everyone is different and quite a few people have been known to moan about it being too small for them at above 6'.

How old are you mate?
I think if i was 20 years younger it would have been fine, not now though :(

Early twenties. I was just adding another side to the bike size dilemma as it's not always uncomfortable for all of us half-giants! :)

Yeah its probably fine for you, albiet a bit more legroom would help them though, dropped pegs maybe.

Yeah i'm 20 too. Dropped pegs? Much work involved in doing that? I'll make sure i keep you informed on what i buy.

really can't wait to pass!

There is a few on here who have used the buell pegs, not done it myself so cant comment how hard they are to fit.

I know a couple of people similar in stature to yourself who've found the SV perfectly acceptable. However comfort is such a personal issue that there really aren't any definitive answers about whether it will fit you or not.
Despite the fact that you're some distance from the bike in question, I can't help but strongly recommend you make an effort to find one and have sit on it at the very least.

Thanks for the feedback. I wont be buying blind, will definately have a sit down on it before i purchase.

Was just making sure its worth me taking a weekend from work to try one. I think i will be now as hopefully it sounds like i might be ok

If its two months till your DAS Id wait.Summer will be a distant memory by then and bike prices will be lower.Spend the time making sure you pass the test and having a sit on lots of bikes to see what suits.

Good point. Price seems to be the book price but you may get a bit less later in the year.

BTW I'm 6' 2", 44 years old and the SV is fine for me. I have some non-standard bars but it feels comfortable enough. I don't think it's that small if you compare overall dimensions with other bikes. I recently moved up from a GS500 which is 10cm shorter and a similar seat height. I was ok on that, and still ok on the SV. It's a great bike. Try one out or at least sit on one.

Thanks i hadn't thought about that.

Been sitting on a few, was really tossing up between the sv or a bandit. Everyone seems to praise the v twin engine though

As BB's post,

In two months time there will be a lot less demand for bikes and dealers will accept a lower price than advertised.

In two months the amount of bikes available will increase and the demand will decrease.

This will present you with more bikes to choose from and put you in a better position to haggle on price.

In Dec 2008 i bought a 3 month old 650 sport with 220 miles on the clock from an official suzuki dealer for not much more than your 3300 bike.

AND it was a K9 spec bike.:D

Bide your time i say.

EDIT. In two months time that will be a ridiculous price to pay for a K8 with 8500 miles, in my honest oppinion.

Thats not bad money TBH.

Id also consider having a sit on the DL650. Stonking bikes which suit a taller frame.

The GSX650 is also worth a look,

There low as it is. Man up and get a curvy. 99-02. Leg room will be the least of your worries, fighting off the curvy hungry ladies will be a bigger problem.

I'm 6'3'' for the record and have no issues at all after well over 30,000 miles of pure social, domestic and pleasure. Mainly pleasure. :smt045
