I think a trip to the Lake District is in order, but I dont really want to sit on a motorway there and back. Anyone got any suggestions of a good route from Tunbridge Wells area to the Lake District? I am only planning of going for a 3 day weekend (1 day to get there, 1 day to play in the Lake District, and 1 to get back), so it still needs to be a pretty direct route.

Cheers!!

I would....A21 - M25 - A1 - A684 to Kendal. Not quite motorway, and possibly the most direct route other than M25, M40, M6 etc.

Hmmm... if you're going to take the A1, may I suggest turning off at Grantham onto the A52,A610 to Ambergate, up the A6 for a few miles and onto the A5012, up the A515 to Buxton, then A6 and A624 to Glossop, B6105, A6024 into Huddersfield, then the A629 and onto the A65, it'll take a little longer, but give you a wonderful run through the peaks as well.

Cheers Mark.
