hahahahaha "Benoît Dumas, a police officer in the region where the six-litre Mercedes SLS was stopped, said: "He needed over half-a-kilometre of road to come to a halt."

Dumas hahaha, sorry, i'll go hide in the corner :/

Wow what a knob. The offence alone proves you don't need to be smart to be rich, but then he comes out with "I think the speedometer is faulty"

"I think the speedo on the car, which is new, is faulty," he told police by way of an explanation. That'll work. i tried that once, and it didnt work then

Thats perfectly fair way to fine people, based on there income and offense.

Yep, would like to see income based fines in my country too
Just doesn't seem to be a fine, a way of enforcing social order, if the receiver does not feel it... Wouldn't you break laws that don't suit you at a given time if the penalty would be 1pound?

I guess minimal penalty fees would still apply for the average Joe.

Depends on what Joe is earning on average...

We would still have to pay a minimum £70 for speeding. But if you are speeding in a Bugatti because you don't care about the £70, then maybe a £70,000 fine would be more appropriate.

I don't agree with it TBH, as you'd end up with the dolites on £50 a week or whatever it is getting a 45p fine for running over your gran while uninsured driving a deathtrap.
