hi everyone
does anyone know where i can get a new engine for my sv 400s 99
or a lot of spare parts so i can strip it and get back out on the road
thanks for looking and helping
prolly easier to bang a 650 lump in there... 400 engine is just a sleeved down 650, maybe carbs and ignition module too

Ignitor box is different, higher rev limit. Do not use this on a 650 engine.

hi guys
thanks for the replys very helpful
ok another question would i have to change the front forks two as the 400 is a single disc ?
and this might be wishful thinking but do you reckon i could fit a 1000cc engine in instead of a 650cc cause i might as well go all out if it does !

no you can't fit the thou lump, well actually anything is possible,but it's a proper project that; requiring fabrication and all sorts of other things, not least either housing the FI or fitting carbs big enough to work well with it.
depending on what is broken on yours, it's an easy job to replace the bottom end as the 400 & 650* ones are the same, the yokes are also the same, so a 650* fork change is a straight swap to.
*99-02 curvy version

if you are using your top end the bottom of a post 2002 will work as well (pointy)as the cylinders mounts are the same, basically give you the option on any 650 engine with a topend problem, however I'd probably go for a complete 650cc lump and change the ecu and jets to suit, you'll get a nice usable increase in power to.

as the 400 & 650* ones are the same,
Different stroke no?

Both I think you'll find, however the bore is addressed by the 650 piston and barrel, whilst it does require the removal of the base gasket, critically it works.

650 stroke 62.6mm or have I got that written down wrong?
google says 400 has 49mm stroke.
While ago Zoran was building SV500 motors to get into certain racing class, 400 bottom with 650 top.

off the top of my head I think it's 80x60/ 70x50 roughly, but as I say, bolt the bits together and it'll work, only ever done one, and never measured it for powerwasn't able to source a 400 top end at the time.

google says 400 has 49mm stroke.
650 = 81 x 62.6
400 = 72 x 49
You can not mix top end with bottom end. You need to use crank and rods of same engine as top end. In other words you can not bolt 400 pistons to 650 crank/rods or other way around. You need custom made rods to do that.
PS. I have complete top end for 400 if somebody needs it (rods, pistons, cylinders, heads).
