For me the biggest disease for the SV is that the Curveys' are ugly as hell. (apart from Liam Simpsons, and soon to be, Tams). :D

Now watch the backlash..... :smt074

Personally i'd get a pointy. Plenty of good ones around and cant be that much more expensive.
Unless, that is, if you do like the look of the pigs.

well rust isnt an issue ,clean it off and use acf50 after
problems are speedo rotor breaking (from front wheel removal)
water in front plug (fender extender and grease fix this)
reg rec's are known to go bang
rear suspenson needs upgrading and tbh you'd be as well doing the front
the engines are pretty bullet proof and they dont really have many problems if properly maintained

That's a beautiful curvy - in the fastest colour too.:D

If that's the only rust spots you're not doing too badly. All of them can be sorted with a bit of polishing.

What kind of mileage is on it? Generally if they're lowish mileage, have been maintained and kept indoors during the winter then they're a good used buy I would say.

Looks like a nice curvy, ignore that pointy owner

Change fork springs & oil (OEM are crap)
Make sure the engines been serviced regularly
Swing arm pivot bearings need greasing as Mr Suzuki forgot in most cases
Change rear shock (OEM is crap)

Told Ya:smt074

+1 on the shock change, makes one hell of a difference. I've just done it and put a GSXR 1000 shock in, however have a search there are plenty of threads for doing this with lots of options (zx10r seems favourable) and everyones always eager to help.

No, curvys ended in 2002, unless yours was a late registration

There's loads of parts for 1999 - 2002 Sv's on Ebay.

Just type Sv into Ebay's search engine in the motorcycles section.

Main difference is the N model had no fairing, your one is the S model with the fairing. But most parts are the same

The early SV ~ 99 was subject to a recall to fit a baffle within the crankcase to manage oil flow. Ensure you have either the factory fitted updated engine or the recall was performed. Other than that, remove the front seat and check for abrasion of the wiring loom from the seat fixings.

Issues with age are likely to be the rear brake pad retaining pins being seized within the caliper, corrosion to brake pistons, adhesion/ damage to brake piston seals.

btw the speedo rotor is expensive ?
about £30 uk but if your speedo works its fine

did you have any link for the fender extender ?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDA-EXTENDA-FENDER-EXTENDER-FIT-SUZUKI-SV650-99-02-/130389417766?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts

"reg rec's" ?? what is that ?
regulator rectifier, it controls the recharging of the battery cost about £40 uk for a new one of ebay

what rear suspension shoud i buy ?
depends on your budget, best would be a penski or olins rear shock but they retail at £300-400 uk, a cheaper alternitive is a kwak zr636 or a gxsr 750 you can pick one of them up for around £50-60 uk and for front springs budget about the same

unfortunately she was keeped outside :/ that why the rust... but she have a little mileage : 16700mi
just give her a good clean and regrease so nice new oil and maybe a filter and she'll be grand, then just keep up the maintance

hope that answered your questions

or a schema where it should be mounted ?
because maybe the owner dont know if the engine was updated.

hope that answered your questions

All depends on how much you are paying for it, £1200?

I had mine 99 Sv for 4 years, had some electrical issue due to reg. Shock and front spring upgrades improves the bike and gives you a even bigger smile. Also parts for curvy sv is cheap so repairs/upgrading bits with second hand parts are less painful!

Oh, black is best colour too, I'm still very happy with it :D

Persoanly the thing I would be woried about would be rust on the exhurst downpipe and around the radiator since that is the area that gets the worst of the crap from the roads if it has been used in the winter. Good service history is also a good thing to have. In my limited experience I would also recomend having a freind who knows about bikes to keep your feet on the ground and stop you making a rash decision.

Nice looking bike, especially as it's black.

I bought a 99 curvey earlier in the year. It had been heavily customised by the previous owner, but I still had to get a fenda extender, and would recommend that you do as well. I'm not sure if the shocks were upgraded, but mine feel fine (unless I'm ignorant to what a decent set up can give you). The rear is a Suzuki one but could be from a different model. Mine had 23000 miles on the clock and came with some service history which included the recall for the baffle in the the crankcase. It had all the MOT's and had spent a few years putting on only a few miles so was probably a fair weather bike for some of it's life. It was in vgc for it's age and has no rust. I transplanted my tourinf Scottoiler kit and off I went, with a smile on my face.

Do check out the pins in the calipers as they are a crap design and will cause you grief if they are stuck.

If it feels right and ticks the right boxes then go for it.

That is simply cosmetic, no structural or functional effect at all.
