My bike is in the garage with the front end off.
I had an off well not really an off more of an up and away, I crushed three virtibrae and put a whole in my ankle after a car cut across me.
I'm well on the mend now but it's been three months bikeless.
The insurance are still dragging there heals, I've got £2000 put away for a second hand bike I was waiting for the insurance so i could get a nice GS1200R Adventure but I can't wait much longer.

Yep, no injuries though. The rear end of a new R1200GSA was trashed a couple of months ago when the FD separated at the knuckle... at about 90kph. It made for a few interesting moments. Some might be laughing, but the big pig is 22kg over the manufacturers GVM without the hitch load which adds another 47kg and spends a lot of time off road. Needless to say that this is not a warranty claim.
For now I am back on the old bike which is heavier again, but has gone half way around the clock without a sniff of trouble in that area.

What bike is the old one?
did you get any signs that the FD was loose like knocking.
I wanted a GS for reliability as I travel to Germany a lot to lisit family.

I have, old guy cut me up because he didn't look backwards. I got away with a bruised hip, but, I had to replace my front end, so, I went whole hearted. New forks, clip-ons, front fairing, rear light, tail tidy, re-painted fairing, grips, callipers, brake pads, braided lines and tyres :-)

Don't judge the reliability of the breed by my example. What I do is classified as abuse and because of that I expect the occasional problem and for the bike to be high maintenance. This is the first problem that I have had that has put any of my bikes on the back of a truck and between friends and family there are over a dozen of these bikes that are nothing but reliable.
I was very heavily loaded (don't ask) with a third wheel on badly corrugated and fairly loose gravel roads so there was little warning of the collapse. This is normal riding conditions for me. The old bike is the 04 GSA in my sig which as mentioned has been solid since new. It is now at ~350k mi and has copped the same treatment and worse all of its life.
