View Full Version : Training wheels! (CG125)

since passing my tests in April, my trusty rusty CG125 has pretty much sat in the garage, getting in the way and doing nothing. It has tax and MOT until January 2011 and has been a fun and faithful bike. However, I want a rat/hack bike for the winter and need the space in the garage, so Henry has to go. :D

He has seen better days paint wise, but he has had some work done on him to keep him on the road, such as fork seals, regular oil changes, wheels serviced and even a strip down and clean.
I am thinking that £300 would get him out of my way and into the capable hands of a budding new Biker. If you happen to hear of anyone looking for a set of training wheels, do send them my way. :smt045
In the mean time, I am on the look out for a ratty but reliable small capacity twin for use as a winter hack, thinking 250 - 400 and probably an old Kwak or Honda. The plan is to cover it in hideous paint and ride it until it dies or the sun comes out next summer! :smt109

The bike is in Weston Super Mare and I am open to sensible offers.

What's the year, mileage etc Mrs Flakes?

Ahh, details...
G Reg (1990) around 26000 miles. The seat is in need of a new cover because the Honda plastic one has cracked and split in two places.
It is a kick start, but is very easy to get going. All lights are working, tyres are good and brakes have loads of life in them.
The last oil change was in April and it was fitted with a new clutch and throttle cables before my test. There is a little wear and tear on the engine, but it still pulls to 60MPH while the most I have had out of it was just over 70MPH!
It is a great bike for local commuting and training, but I now have a new job that involves a motorway blast, so I don't want to wear it out doing that to it.

Weston Super Mare, you say? Don't fancy riding it to London do you? I'd have it off you if you did. :( Just can't quite comprehend doing the M4 all the way to London on a 125 myself!!!

If you want to come and have a look at it first, we can trailer it to you for a price. I would not want to tow it all the way there and then you decide that you don't want to pay the price or delivery fee. It is a harsh world! :smt024
We have several interested people at the moment and will keep the thread updated should it not sell this week.
So far we have an offer of three hundred pounds from a student in Bristol, but he can't pay until he starts back at uni, so if we get offers less than that, we will just save it for him. There is also another Org member interested and one of Carol's old friends who is the classic biker dude!
I have just been and checked Henry over and he starts easily, even after leaving him for six weeks in a damp garage. All of his lights work and he will sit and idle like a purring kitten. I just took him for a quickie around the block and he was fun, so nimble and quite powerful for such a tiny bike.
Slow control is easy and he turns on a penny, making him a perfect learner bike. Should he get dropped, bits are easily found on E-Bay and to be honest, he is such a simple machine, he is super easy to fix.
While I used him, I kept him clean and even waxed, so he looks nice for a twenty year old training bike. I checked the millage again and it is below 26000 and not over it as I thought. :D

Do you think it would be ok to ride back to London? Just checked and it's £25 single fare to Weston Super-Mare....Hmmmm...

riding it from Weston to London would seriously hurt your bum and I am not sure that it would be entirely good for the bike either. Riding on a motorway would be very unpleasant, but riding back on the A roads would be an adventure.
If you really wanted it, a deposit would secure it for you and you could collect it at your leisure. As stated, we have had an offer of £300 and we are happy to hold on to it until that time.
We have just had some nice people come and have a look at Henry and they were quite happy with him. He is small light and turns on a penny, perfect for a beginner. :D

It looks like the visitor yesterday did not want to have Henry join their family, which was a shame for him, but did mean that I got to go for a ride on him last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is so funny going from the SV to my little Henry, he used to feel so stable and planted, but these days he feels small and very light. Funny what a few weeks away can do.
Anyway, I really need him out of the way because I am hoping to take delivery of a another trusty rusty Honda this week and need the garage space very soon.
Carol and I are asking for £300 in used bank notes, pieces of silver or Gold teeth and in return you can have a little bike with a big heart. Henry the Honda, like Herbie but more fun and less possessed!

Henry the Honda is wanted by some one and will probably be heading off to a new home very soon. :D
This is good news because I need the garage space, but also quite sad because I have loved that little bike. He will be going to another new rider so that they can train up on him, practice their slow control and enjoy that first time moment of going above twenty miles per hour.
Go forth my brave little bike and may you bring as much joy and adventure to your next owner as you did for me. :sunny:

Congrats :(
I dare say I'd have snapped it off you if you were closer, without even viewing. But since you were so far away, I was about a week off coming to a 'yes' decision. (You'll really regret selling it by the way!!)

Glad to hear its moving on to train up someone new :) will you let them ride off on henry without you watching it drive away or will you chase after it up the road with tears in your eyes shouting bye bye little fella? i did the teary bit when my first one left me for someone else

I think I will probably watch him leave me, as I shed a tear on the pavement. :smt010 :-({|= :-({|= :-({|=
What do I do though when some one else crashes through the gear box because they are not gentle with him, or revs him to the red line during slow control? I am not sure I could bare to watch it happen, my poor boy! When I say this to Carol she tries to sympathize, but I know that she is laughing inside! Luckily the new owners are lovely and they will cherish and love him, maintain him and check his oil and tyres every week, just like I did! :queen:
Poor wifey, she has a lot to put up with! :smt120

Henry the Honda has a new home with a lovely couple of people. His new Mummy will be learning to ride on him and I hope that she has as many adventures and fun rides as I did.
Good bye Henry, happy winding roads ahead to you and your new Mummy.
Love from Mummy Jayne

Henry came to visit me this week, looking all sparkly and polished. His new lady owner had put a lovely seat on him and had even cleaned up his chain guard. He looked lovely and made me feel very happy to see him being loved and not left to rust in the back of the garage. Anyway, the new owner has asked me to place a photo on here of Henry looking resplendent in new paint and a new seat.
