I have got a nice Delkevic slip-on on my 650 Sport (K9), but there is a bit of blowing at the join. Before I seal it, I was thinking is there any point removing the Cat (the mesh just after the 2 pipes are welded into 1)? I have heard it makes the exhaust louder (always a good thing), but don't know if it's true! Also, would it screw with exhaust backpressure or damage the engine in any way?

IF the bike still has warranty remaining?? I would suggest that you leave the "Cat-Honeycomb" in place as the removal would be considered a major modification??

To the cat, definitely, as it won't be eaten
To the K9 the cat would have provided sustenance, so removing it might be detrimental if you don't feed it something to compensate..

there is no noise test for an MOT, it is subjective.
If a bike fails because of "noise", fail your tester and go to a tester who thinks a loud can is an essential safety feature
I removed my whole system and warranty still OK at my dealer.
I think you'll find that if you have cut the main silencer off, you've already removed the cat!

Modifying the exhaust will only affect the warranty if you make a warranty claim that has something to do with the exhaust. Speedy, there isn't a catalyst in the can, only in the pipe after the 2-1.

I took mine out, and my dealer told me that aslong as I didn't have a waranty claim with the exhaust, my waranty stood.

I need not worry really, I just put a complete system on....
