View Full Version : Ron Haslam Race School - Too expensive!

...time or money! Back from the school today.
What did I learn? Well, I will try not to slate the school too much as the guys there are very nice people, but I thought it was very expensive for what I got which was 3 x 20mins on track and not much instruction. I asked as many questions as possible and kept asking for instruction but the response was mostly "yeah, your riding is fine, just keep practicing". It was also quite annoying that we kept having to hold back and slow down again and again for the fast groups.

I would advise anyone thinking of doing the school to do a track day with a more experienced friend and get tips, or just watch the California Super Bike School videos.

This is just my experience of it. HTH

Thanks for that mate, i was thinking of doing this, but probably will do a track day instead and use their free instructors.

Always a good idea. Most trackday companies offer free instruction from known top ranking club racers and some extremely good road riders. I've taken advantage of this a few times and my track riding improved beyond belief

A few people have recommended this approach so will give it a try, got nothing to lose i suppose.

To be honest I reckon you get more instruction at track days. Demand on the instructors is always suprisingly low and the teaching has always been one-on-one. It's free but I bung a tip at the end of the day

just watch the California Super Bike School videos.

FWIW Watching the videos is nowhere near the same as actually attending the school. The instructors there are really keen on helping anyone who is keen and willing to learn.

Trackday instructors are pretty good and as people have said, very few actually take advantage of them.

Maybe you should have done the CB500's? I've done the 600's and the 500's and there's no doubt you get much more time on the 500's. 40 minutes continous track time and another couple of hours on the car park or inner circuit practicing corner entry, stoppies etc.

The 500's are well slower but I think you can still have a load of fun pushing them to their limits on the corners. Much cheaper option as well!

specialone,

this might be useful http://www.trackdaylist.com/

I was hoping to do a couple of trackdays over the next few weeks but I've hurt my back. I'll keep an eye on any org trackday threads in case it sorts itself in the meantime

If there's a slip of a lass called Lisa instructing, make sure you book in with her. She was ace at Mallory last week and gave me loads of time before the session to talk understand where I wanted to improve. We then went out and she followed, lead and watched, followed by a lengthy and detailed discussion afterwards. Much more detail than the last instructor I used with Hottrax at Anglesey who just said "you need to hit the apexes".
