View Full Version : Using tyre weld?
Got a flat on the CBR (rear). Unfortunately it's a fast puncture so no chance I can get it anywhere.
The place that has my tyres is 8 miles away. I got some tyre weld (the puncture is fast but the sheared screw in the tyre is pretty small, just a few mm) which I plan to use tomorrow, was wondering if anyone had any experience with it on a bike??
Am not looking forward to it but I need to get to the shop now! I heard stories that the stuff just sprays out of the puncture down the road (and inevitably on the bike too!)
Oh and it says to remove the nail? surely it's better to leave it in since the hole it'll need to plug will be smaller?

Remove the nail. If you don't it will wiggle about as the tyre flexes and puncture again, or rip the carcass of the tyre and make it unrepairable.
Tyre weld and similar work OK, buy some sticky string for a more relaible temporary repair. Follow the instructions carefully - they don't all work identically.

if you do use tyre weld, make sure you tell the tyre fitter before he removes it......
He knows I'm going to be using it, it was him who suggested getting it. Cheers for clarifying on taking the nail out.
Unfortunately I'm going tomorrow and I've already got the tyre weld so will have to use it rather than anything else.
Mate I used tyre weld on a new tyre and it lasted and held it's pressure for the life of the tyre.
mine was a nail but never had any probs, i did take the nail out though.
Reassuring to hear it worked on a bike, I've not seen anything that mentions it does yet! I only need to get it to the shop to have it changed so as long as it lasts me 7 miles I'm golden.
sorry I should have said I got 8K out of my front with tyre weld and when i changed it i was expecting it to be full of foam like a wall cavity but there was no sign of anything so i don't/have not experianced why you should tell the fitter.
I am talking of a 1inch nail though about 2mm cross section.
I was living on a shoe string at the time but with that experiance i wouldn't dout the reliabilaty of tyre weld on a small puncture. if it was out to the side i may feel different. oh yeh it was the generic car ment stuff.
Stuff was great. Got me to the shop no problem, a tiny bit came out when inflating but stopped almost straight away.
