View Full Version : M4 exhaust specs?
Hey y'all, back again to do more modding it is summer time after all :D
I've been looking for an M4 system for my curvy for years now, there as rare as hen's teeth.
However i was wondering, if i picked up an M4 slip on end can, could i get the pipe work made up for the full system ?
So who has the spec's on the pipe work for the full system then ? whats the added diameter ? will the slip on can work, wont it work ? should i just go look for the full system ..

Yorki_ chris has a full M4 system mate. I'm sure he'll be along soon to tell you what's what!
I have a slip on M4 race can, it has a very small scuff right at the bottom of it. I am tempted to swap it for something meaty but with removable baffles (as opposed to no baffles) if you're interested
At the moment Toby i have a two tone CCC end can, but it's not in great condition, due to some botched spraying on it before i got it, it does me rightly but it would hardly be worth the swap for an M4 end can..
I'd be open to buying your one if you consider selling it ?
Let's see what chris says about the headder pipe's i could get a set made up, but i have a funny feeling the inlet on the slip on cans is smaller then on the full system ...

If its anything like the Akropovic system I have on mine, all the pipework where the front and rear cylinders meet are different (less of it and more direct). The is no baffle in the link pipe to exhaust (I'm sure the link pipe is wider too). Pipe that goes down side / underneath on sump is higher / nearer the sump. Its much much lighter.

Thanks Harry,
i think the real diff/ gains are in the diameter of the pipe work... thats why the full system adds a few extra pony's

Now where is that chris fella gone to :smt120:smt120

Theres an M4 end can and link pipe on the Bay at the mo, but it doesn't look like the full race system, as the link pipe looks like it would connect with the standard headers.

I'd PM YC as he hasn't seen this thread yet

If its just an end can, with no link, that you want to put on the standard headers its easy enough to have a link pipe fashioned up for you.
Luckily I'm not far from Zorstec or Beowulf, who do that sort of thing.
BTW, that Chris fella is on his way up for tea....just don't tell him I ran out of biccies ;-)

YC the (cup of) tea and biscuit powered man
Na DB there's a link pipe with it, but i'm just wondering if i get the spec off him for the full system and have it made up will it work with the end can ... or are those end cans different to the full system cans
Tis all hightly complex stuff dont you know :smt120:smt120:smt120

I doubt the end cans are any different seperately or stuck on the end of a full system.

I have a feeling this is the case all right, but i just wanted to check with chris to see what he thinks, Anything even down to how the pipe work might be different to the stock down pipe's

Well I'll let you into a secret...my ex had a VRaptor with twin M4 cans, that were added to some link pipes.
YCs M4 can seems rather identical, its just on a full system.
If I'm wrong, I apologise, but I've never noticed a difference...apart from the twin ones on a VRap are far superior to a single SV one ;-)
Anything exhaust wise, you could give Mark Hill at MHP a call, he can make up whatever you want. Have recently compared a full M4 system with a full Hindle system and they came out more or less the same on the dyno.

Interesting ..... i can get stuff made up over here hopefully, but i'll price around ...
Well i have the can ( not in my hands just yet however ) but it seems it does require the full system to go with it .... so i guess i'll have to start investigating that now

I have an M4 full system (race mount) sitting in a box... replaced it with a LeoVince so that I would have an E-mark after moving from Oz. I had already fitted a db-killer in the end of it that made the level quite ok for the road.
There is a small dent in the alu can and it's not polished up in show-bike condition, but if someone wants it and can deal with postage from France, make me an offer :)
Ahh jaysus Graham, where were you before saturday :( I have an end can now already.... would you part with the pipe work alone ?
Are you sure it's the M4 system is for a curvey ?

You could always have a custom link pipe made up for you to fit to your standard headers. Which would perhaps be simpler? You can make any can fit a set of headers with the right link pipe.
My Art can was differing diameter and I had one made up.
The M4 cans on the Raptor were from a TLR but had the links done for the cans from the whoever owned them previously. M4 never made cans for the Raptor.

Yea i was thinking about that also, but tbh, if i was going to fit an M4 system, it was always going to be the full system ...

Funnily enough when I bought my M4 can the link pipe was totally wrong. It had obviously come off a full system (although the guy wouldnt admit it).
So I boguht another link pipe on the off chance it would fit but no luck.
The M4 link was the right inlet and outlet size but the wrong shape. The other link was the right shape but the wrong inlet/outlet side.
Took them both to Bensons Components exhaust manufacturers and said "I want something that size and that shape, *******ise what you need to". Literally ten minutes and ten quid later I have a stainless link pipe made out of the original M4 one which fit perfect.

Busy moving house, hence no internet...
Ah, mine is for a pointy, the one-off K3. However:
-I think that while the curvey system fouls the oil cooler on a pointy, swapping the other way is ok. Haven't verified this however.
-The K3 vs later difference is only in the bracket holding the end can.
Not so great to sell just the pipes, since that leaves me with a can and no mid-pipe that would allow it to fit as a slip-on.
Anyway, might all be moot if it doesn't fit :smt120
Feck .... how are we gonna figure this out now ...

Here's the reply I got on the TWF forum:
"It will fit. They might have to make a bracket if it has frame mount below swingarm pivot though. I have 2nd gen Leo on my 1st gen."

M4 full end can is, AFAIK, bigger than normal slip on can.
(My obnoxiously loud and harsh face melting fuel end can does not fit on my M4 pipework)
