Hi guys,

Just a quick question, was out on my bike today and didnt see a police speed camera van. I was speeding up the road, but slowed down then seen it. so not sure how far up the road it was pointing or if it got me.

Can the vans like that get bikes? as it would only have got my front? which obviously doesn't have my number on it?

Any advice?

Thanks

If the operator turns round and writes down your reg... (and some vans have rear facing cctv)

Real police check, 'safety camera partnership' or ANPR operation??

A Scamera van operator would have to get out and record your plate after you passed, and even then might not have evidence that will stand up in court. If you get a NIP you might want to speak to a lawyer who specialises in this area.

If it was a real plod you better hope you hit the brakes in time. They're much more likely to record decent evidence and be willing to take the stand. But they usually have additional units to stop and notify you on the spot.

ANPR operations (at least round my way) usually have additional mobile units available to perform stops and seize vehicles where appropriate. So did you pass a bike and a car tucked away in one of the side streets looking bored??

Well it was northern Ireland. Cameras not as mad as over in England. But am pretty sure it was a police van. Not sure how far they look up the road tho?

It's just gutting as I literally gave it a little throttle out of a junction! Would understand if I was flying from start to finish. Will just wait and see! Hopefully we both get off.

An LTI20/20 van can do you up to 1000m at least

Trust me, getting locked onto a bike at 1,000m is just about impossible, however they can certainly record your speed before you are close enough to realize what that are. I guess time will tell....

LTI20/20[model dep] is only type approved at 600mts. True they do work at a greater distance but beam spread starts to pick up on other objects and unless tripod mounted ,the reading can be distorted by the operators hand movement while panning which can greatly affect the resulting figures produced.
These are a barristers comments not mine.

When you consider that this was technology designed to work in outer space,in a vacuum with no other objects around it there are many factors that can distort readings while being used in a roadside application.
