Intrigued that it has just been registered and needs a MOT
I was led to believe that MOT certification is 3 years after first registration so it can't be its first registration if it has a current MOT.
I may be wrong on this and no doubt corrected if I am but I would want to know the full history of where and why the bike has been in storage????? According to the advert it has been registered to somebody so it makes it second hand not new.
The bike would have to be unregistered and you the first owner for you to insure it as a new bike
otherwise you will have difficulty insuring it for its value

Why would you have it?

I'd say it's only worth about 5 grand private. 954's go for 3-3.5k at the moment, just because it's got 0 miles, doesnt make it worth 7k! :P

That is true DT about it being three years after registration for the mot, something not right there me thinks.

It's been registered on an age related plate, so will display an "03" reg

The first MOT for a bike registered under an age related plate is three years after the manufacturer's proof of age manufacture date

If the bike is >3yrs old at the time of registration an MOT cert must be submitted along with the V55 application

I know because my 560SMR was registered on a 56 plate and the first MOT was due three years after the manufacture date, not the registration date, if I'd not got an age related plate the first MOT would have been due three years from the date of registration

Simples...

I like it, but I wouldn't pay 7k for it.

There was a VRap with no miles and an 03 plate or something a month back on ebay, pre registered.
They were asking practically near enough the price of what they were when they came out, circa 8k,

I wouldn;t have paid that for one, nor would I pay the price for this Blade. 0 miles or not.

Well, i bought a brand new golf a few years back from a car supermarket, the car was manufactured over 9 months beforehand, vw uk told me this when trying to get work done under warranty and because their warranty started when it was sold in germany not here even though it was not used on the road.
But the MOT due date was 3 years after registration not manufacture date.

That's because new vehicles are registered by manufacturers using a different system to the one used to register old vehicles, they are declared new at first registration. This bike was registered us a used vehicle, even though the mileage is zero, and the MOT due date is three years from the date of manufacture...

Should a dealer reg a bike or car as a sale in his name in order to sustain a higher sales output, which they do, thereby getting a bigger discount on the following years purchases the 1st MOT date and warranty is from the date registered.
Manufacturers have bikes and cars in storage for months,or years even, when sales drop off, but this does not affect warranty or MOT till the vehicle is registered to the first buyer,be it the dealer or a customer purchase. Manufacture date only applies to the type approval of the vehicle so to say that MOT and warranty is from date of manufacture is wrong.
Secondly,if you buy a pre-registered vehicle you will find that you are the second keeper of the vehicle so when you come to sell it on it will already have had two keepers reducing the resale value.
That is how dealers can offer pre-registered vehicles at a reduced price from the new intake of unregistered stock.
When I bought my SV new it was still in the box but had been pre-registered 0 miles but still £500 cheaper than a new one,but it did affect the length of warranty and MOT date because of this. I have had this situation on trucks and cars also but it is a way to get a big discount on what is still a new vehicle.

it's essentially a brand new litre class bike (954cc) for a lot less than current prices and that Padgetts have two '929' versions on age related plates, with zero miles and are asking between £7500-£7800 for a more dated bike thats not a '954', I'm asking £6995.

Shock horror! Padgetts selling old bikes for ridiculously high prices?! This guy has got to be a scammer! He'll be telling us that honda don't make this model anymore next!

I certainly wouldn't factor padgetts prices into the equation when looking at an average market value for a bike - it's like looking at the consumer price index and then sticking a brand new car on the monthly shopping list along side eggs, milk and bread

You're paying PAT on that bike - Padgett's Added Tax, personally I think that anyone paying that sort of wonga for what is basically an outdated non-collectable, and frankly uninspiring bike, deserves to pay another 10% Stupid Tax on top of that.

i think that's a lovely looking model of blade, can't say i would pay £7k for it, but im a tight **** ;)

more to the point... why would you buy a bike and put it in storage for 7 years!?

JamesMio
27-08-10, 08:49 PM
No idea - I honestly can't understand folks that spend all that cash on a bike, then have them sitting in the garage collecting dust!

I'd fancy the 0 miles 954, simply because I love my 36,000 mile one and to be able to start again with a new one would be awesome.

Not having any cash to actually buy it is more of a stumbling block to be honest!

It is nice, but if I had that kinda cash sitting around I would probably just buy a new one in the HRC colours...cos I'm a tart..

How many of this sort of bike (years old, unregistered) do they actually sell though? Banging it on ebay is one thing, selling it might be something else...
