Track Fairing Advice

Hi

Am converting an '02 Curvy into a track bike and need to buy some trackday fairings for it. I was originally looking at the BB Plastics fairings but have been a bit put off by the write up in this month's BIKE magazine which, whilst short was fairly negative about the fit.

I'm after something that's a straightforward fit. I know I've got to make holes for the crash bungs to go through, but I don't want to be spending weeks cutting, filing and bracket bodging.

Anyone out there with experience of doing this able to recommend anyone?

was that the review by Martin Fitz-Gibbons which said

"the race fairing doesn't fit properly - most of the pre-drilled holes line up thin air and my original screen has had to be bodged on with cable ties."

I'll be keep any eye on this thread for the crash bungs bit as well :)

Nice. Loads of pre-scuffed stuff on fleabay for peanuts if you want to get out soon and haven't got a full fairing sorted.

IIRC you have to use a BB screen on BB fairings :) No wonder he's had to bodge it.

Don't bother with a 675 fairing if you want an easy fit either :)

Yeah I must admit I've been prowling ebay looking for cheap sv650's recently and pondering a trackbike - had heard of BB race fairings before but would definitely want to do some research if I ever go down the minitwin trackbike route :)

I know deemon tweeks are expensive as feck for parts but they might list some of the manufacturers who make race fairings and be able to point you towards a decent kit - once you know who makes what and roughly how much to pay, you can have a snoop around to find the best price...

Easiest way, look at mad Tony's bike... little flyscreen and a bellypan. Sorted. Very crash proof and light

I used to race Minitwins a while back and I have to say that you should not expect to go out there and buy a fairing off the shelf for an SV and have it fit straight on to stock.

If you want a track fairing whether it be GSXR/BB Plastics/675/R6 you are, at the very least, going to need to "modify" the fairing and most likely going to need new fairing brackets and in some cases new clock bracket/rear subframes.

Its a track bike after all, its not supposed to fit straight on. Where would the fun be in that!

I'd do the same n all. Spend the ridiculous amount you'd spend on a fairing and painting on some tyres and fuel!

Expecially if it's just for track days as you won't be desperate for space for sponsors logos etc

Have used both GSXR and BB Plastic fairings on the SV minitwin and in each case both initially fitted with an hour or two of adjusting race subframes to suit. Pickup points are just the same now as we use our old GSXR fairings when testing as they are quite heavy and robust and then swap to the lighter weight BB Plastics without any further adjustments for actual racing. The BB Plastics fairings are made to a high standard and I'm surprised problems have been reported as I know these guys will not allow dodgy quality out of the factory. We are often asked about fairings to use as our SV does look quite trick in the Fireblade booted set up from BB Plastics. I guess its up to personal choice then...........

Yeah around West Yorks, sure I have dealt with them for something way back... and a quick google reveals they don't make owt bike related.

Considering who BB plastics are/associate themselves with I would not deal with them. But I'm not going to comment on that too much suffice to say anyone interested why can look up mine and coxxys previous discussions about SDC performance.
