Your favourite road

I had a cracking ride into work this morning & got me thinking about my favourite road to ride.

I do enjoy the A525 from Nantwich to Whitchurch for the simple reason that I ride it twice every day of the week to come to work, but one of the nicest roads has been the A3 on the Isle of Man from St Johns to Ramsey. Its not just because its part of the TT course, but the scenery & roads are absolutely glorious.

So, where is your favourite? & why :)

I couldn't honestly say. Some of the roads we did on the AR route...they're good with a group of 104, with a group of 4-5 they are incredible. There's the B4235 that I told Rich T and the South West lot to do to get from Chepstow to Abergavenny on route to the AR and that is an awesome bit of road, but you need to be "on it" to do that fast as it's pretty technical.

For a blast out from home, the Kemble Airfield run is pretty good, but for me, most of them are over the border in Wales.

Oh...the route I take between home and the Vipers house is pretty good fun :-)

My fav road is the B1248 from Malton to Beverley. Its the old Yorkshire Wolds road with lots of sweeping bends, and a cracking surface. You don't have to know it to 'make progress'.

My favourite 'loop' is the B1257, just south of Guisborough, over the Nth Yorks Moors to Malton - not the best of surfaces and quite technical + SHEEP. From there picking up the A169 back up to Whitby and fish and chips. And then onto the A171 back up to Guisborough.

Aye..... the A4059 "Road of a Thousand Sheep" southbound from the A470 reservoir to Hirwaun takes some beating :thumbsup:

Theres loads, but I love this the most, because when I first did it, trying to catch a YPVS350LC on Suzy when I'd first got her, was horrid. I swore and cursed around it all the way to Ayesgarth. These days I love it, as its a little bit of fond memory, and because I'm ever so slightly better at riding, it can be a tad difficult in places, but has some lovely scenery along the way.

Surely it is because it is the quickest, but filthiest way out of Preston, although I would like to see it all knocked down and replaced with a NSL multi lane dual carriageway from the tickled trout to the prison. Still you need somewhere for the ghetto shops.

Lynton to Minehead A39 such an epic road but you cant go fast unless you know the road, goes across Exmoor national park (moors)

delph to denshaw to newhey road, saddlworth. not particularly thrilling but lifts my spirits to and from work everyday.

Delph and Denshaw route from Halifax over to Hudds, are part of my bimbling runs in summer, when the bikes are a bit poorly and need a bit of running. Its a great little route, short and sweet, but enough to lift spirits.:smt045

hi dizzy, unfortunately two bikers lost there lives on it a week ago in a head on with each other, a real shame. so this time next year the speed limit will be lowered to 40 i reckon, they've already reduced the first section from delph to 30 from forty.

Dunno which one to choose really. The road I rode along yesterday evening from the Conwy Falls cafe, through Penmachno, Cwm Machno, pick up the Ffestiniog/Ysbyty Idwal road then along the Ffestiniog/Bala road till it joins the 4212. The 4212 is nice particularly that lovely bend around the spur of Llyn Celyn and there are some great views along there heading in the Trawsfynydd direction but it's a tad overrated and a bit obvious really.

There's a series of roads going through the Massif Centrale from St Martin des Olmes near Ambert and down to Nîmes which I've now ridden twice. It goes from the maritime climate of the northern Massif to the Mediterranean climate of the south and takes in about 80 - 100 miles of the most fantastic hairpins with a mix of ..er..interesting road surfaces! One minute you'll be riding in what appears to be the most remote roads and then suddenly a market town appears out of the mountains and forest. Just the most fantastic route!

The A483 is good from newtown.....but found too many people on there in the good weather.

The A40 to Llandovery through the wooded section, time it right with no cars and its bliss.

There are too many to name to be honest.......even some quite tame roads can be fun as hell at the right times.

A6033 from Hebedn Bridge to Keighley at the moment. Generally fairly quiet, a bit short as a run, but as part of my commute it gets done twice a day, either hooning on the bike, giving it some beans in my MX5 or trunding along in the GV.

It has always reminded me of the mountain section of the TT, especially since I've been running over it at 7.15ish in the morning, with the mist over the top of **** Hill. :cool:

Yeah I know, I posted on the thread. It doesn't bother me TBH, I don't ride like an idiot, so speed changes won't affect me. Like I said, I bimble up there, usually as Dolly the sheep is sat on her back with her feet in the air halfway round a bend:smt120

Theres a nice little road, that starts at the Windfarm up the Withins, which has a pretty bumpy start but pans out into a nice little single track road and ends up on the Hebden/Keighley road. Used to have massive potholes on it, but its been filled a little now. Peg seems to like it for some reason!

It's tricky because there are some amazing roads I've only done once or twice and I probably remember them with rose tinted specs, so I'll say two of my local roads.

The B4391 Bala over to the Tanat valley is excellent, I love the way it swoops into a 'secret valley' and snakes high long the valley sides.

But my local road that is at the bottom of my lane, the B5105, is my most favourite. It has everything, (including unmarked cars this weekend!). Always good to blow the cobwebs away on it, it take a concious effort not to turn onto it everytime (just 75% of the time ;)) I take the bike out.

Phil_247, Frilly Knickers, Mr S Hunter and I rode that a number of times this weekend. Amanda joined us on Sunday. It's a cracking road (that you don't need to know that well) to make progress on... it's a little bumpy in places.

I quite liked the A377 from Barnstaple to Crediton...

There are SO many good roads - I can't choose one, but I have to say I do see why the Breadboy went on and on about south Wales.
