Regarding the 'Ring - is there any requirement to wear leathers?

I'm going to be travelling very close by on my return from Malta so thought it would be rude not to put in a lap while I'm in the area, only I'll be wearing textile kit and don't want to take leathers just for this one part of the trip.

I was looking through some pictures of the Nurburgring the other day and saw a fella on a fully ladened BMW with the BMW textiles on...not a definative answer but thought I would share.

It's a road and not a track, so you (and your vehicle) must be road legal. In other words wear whatever is legal to where on a German autobahn, so textiles will be fine.

Be sure to check the calendar (http://www.nuerburgring.de/angebote/fahrerlebnisse/touristenfahrten-nordschleife/oeffnungszeiten-nordschleife.html) so you know if/when it is open to the public. Last week when I went it was only evenings (roughly 17.30 till 19.30). No good if you're only passing through and want a go at midday.

Advisable to get on about 20 minutes after the start time I found, this gives time for mass crowd to go, but also gets you on soon enough so that if it closes, like it did once after I'd only done one lap when 2 bikes thought it'd be fun to play with a Porsche, then at least you managed to get a lap in.

When you going Lozzo? The Ring isn't open all day for tourist days in Sept except Sunday 26th and it will be mad, although it has a lot of evening sessions on.

Might be worth checking opening times. I think there might be an official Ring website in German but Ben Lovejoy's website is in English and pretty comprehensive

Thanks Balky, I'll stick with an evening session then as that seems the best solution. It'd be rude to pass so close and not get a lap in.

Lozzo, they're fine with proper biking kit as mentioned above, make sure you've got proper boots too. Kevlar jeans are a bit hit and miss with them.... Bike has to be road legal AND have at least one mirror, lights and indicators.

Official opening times are here:

http://www.nuerburgring.de/?id=2347

When it says open until 7:30 pm last entry is normally at 7:15pm in order to get everything round the track.
