View Full Version : Regular Rideout - West Coast?

Being a proper noob, not just to the forum but to biking in general (cbt on July 19, full license aug 27!) I just wondered whether there was a regular group ride out at all? I really like the idea of something like a breakfast run once or twice a month on a Sunday but haven't seen anything on here like that.

Anyone do this already or interested in starting something like this before this "summer" skips straight to winter?!

I normally do frequent trips to the Carbeth Inn and back if your up for it. Although they are usually a last minute thing depending on weather etc. In fact am going a wee run up there tonight about 6.30 ish should be up there around 7.30 or there abouts. If your in the Glasgowish area PM your moby number and i txt you. Last Sunday me and a friend went a run Carbeth, Aberfoyle, Callander, Carbeth then home

Cheers

The other option of course is to organise your own "breakfast run" Weegie.

If you put it out there people generally turn up. :)

Well, I went on a nice little run this morning with a guy I passed my test with. East Kilbride - Strathaven - muirkirk - Cumnock - New Cumnock - Dalmellington (think that's what it's called!) - Ayr, then back down the M77 and home through Fenwick and Eaglesham. Excellent run!

I don't really know anyone else with a bike so can anyone recommend a nice route that puts me back on the M8 or M77?

I'd be up for a west coast ride. In Ayr and used to heading out the route you described. Post something up next time you fancy it ..

Aye, I skipped it this weekend. I may be a Manchester lad but even for me, it was a bit rough.... ;)

Will do. Probably won't be this weekend but I'll try to sort something once a month at least. None of my mates ride so it will at least make it a bit more enjoyable for me rather than bumbling along on my lonesome!

Aye, if we had a meetin point in Ayr, even I might be able to make it!

WeegieBlue
07-09-10, 09:00 PM
What about Kilmarnock? Is that about half way?

Milky Bar Kid
07-09-10, 09:00 PM
LOL! Doubt I would go if the actual meeting point was Kilmarnock, that's about 80 mile away from me!

Yep, near to Stranraer

WeegieBlue

That makes much more sense then. It's only 35 miles from here to Ayr on the M77/A77. Definitely feasible. We'll work on it! :D

I was speaking to a biking buddy of mine and he was telling me there is a cracking road from outside Thornhill up to the M74? A real twisty bit!
I don't know that bit of the D&G. Does anybody know which road it is as I didn't really understand his instruction!

Now combine those three bits of blackstuff??????

Guys, don't base it around me, I don't get many weekends off! I am backshift that night so start at 4pm so wouldn't be feasible for me to join you.

Sounds like a great run. Need a new back tyre before that though (too many runs up the M77 !!!!).

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 07:48 AM
It would be good if we could get a few of the orgers there and there's no massive rush so we should sort it for when MBK isn't working.

September is pretty busy for me so beginning of OCtober would be good. Obviously we're fighting the weather a bit but I seem to recall we often get a wee bit of nice weather around then.

October 3rd anyone?

Then St John's Dalry to Moniave!:cool::cool::cool:

hey thats MY Route don't be stealing it now!!!

I might be up for this if its early October. We could get something sorted to get from Glasgow to Ayr in a decent fashion too.

Sunday 10th October for West Coast Ayr Run (WC-AR)????????

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 10:32 AM
10/10/10 sounds perfect!

If folk are going from Glasgow then there's a really nice run from EK down to Ayr through Cumnock if anyone fancied meeting in EK first?

JamesMio
09-09-10, 10:43 AM
Isn't that the same weekend as the Aviemore run? If not, I'll certainly try and tag along, seeing as it's on my doorstep!

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 10:45 AM
It is the same weekend actually. Reckon that'll cause problems then?

TamSV
09-09-10, 11:19 AM
There's racing at East Fortune that weekend too. If it's going to be a regular run then those that are going to Aviemore could catch the next one. You'll never find a date that suits everyone.

I was going to stick my name down for Aviemore but I might do East Fortune on the Saturday and this run on the Sunday if it goes ahead.

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 11:22 AM
Right, 10/10/10 it is. Those that can make it, great. Those that can't, well, maybe next time!

Best way to do it - you'll never find a date to suit all, pick one and those that can make it, great, if not... not to worry!

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 11:44 AM
I'll start a thread then and we can give proper details as this one is called Regular Rideout and the WCAR may well not be!!

So its 10/10/10 then! Please sign up there.

Any ideas on where to meet in Ayr area? Someone from up there got an easy to find place? Not in the town, pain in the rrrr's to drive thru:smt013

What happened to the 3rd?

Won't be at this on the 10th.

Things change so much when you go for a sleep! LOL

SIII
09-09-10, 01:39 PM
You shouldv'e shouted out - 3rd!

Nothing set in stone. Smile nicely and maybe we could do the do the 3rd seeing as its us 3 (SIII, Weegie & MBK) been pushing for this?:grouphug:

Doesn't bother me really - just like riding ma Bike. and would be cool to ride with as many like minded souls as possible!

Also the 3rd meens it wouldn't clash with the Aviemore run:D

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 01:43 PM
I started a thread

Right, it's now 03/10/10, just for MBK!

Guys, I know you're new to the forum and there's no monopoly on rideouts but arranging one on the same date as the Aviemore run? The Aviemore run has taken place this time of year for the past 5 years and this years run has been posted on the forum for quite some time now.

I was about to book accommodation today but having just seen this minutes ago I have to hold off?

WeegieBlue
10-09-10, 12:33 PM
It's 03/10/09 so no clash.....

TamSV

You're OK SB. The rideout date has been changed to the 3rd.

TamSV
10-09-10, 12:36 PM
Not at all. I can't do the Aviemore run so I'll be heading out with some other forummers who are also knocking about that day. It's not a huge forum meet, just a few of us out for a wee ride. It's just a one day thing, nothing major.

Am I missing something? It is now the 3rd isn't it?

You're OK SB. The rideout date has been changed to the 3rd.

Thanks. It's the multiple threads causing the confusion. This thread was at the top and last post said 10/10/10 was the date for the rideout. No links to other threads. Usually KG consolodates threads to avoid folk getting confused.
