Government Safety adverts mis-information

The one showing on TV at the moment (http://www.thedrum.co.uk/news/2010/08/19/15256-scottish-government-campaign-aims-to-promote-seat-belt-useage/) is the second advert I've seen that if it were ANY other advert would have been pulled for mis information.

Now you tell me that air bag wasn't rigged to go off far too late and pathetically.

The other one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sL5-L8NS5zk) was the one where the guys insided come to a stop inside him against his rib cage. Now anyone who understands very basic physics knows that this would happen *exactly* the same whether the guy was wearing a seatbelt or not.

How can they get away with this blatant mis-information?

I've been through the approval process for a TV advert and I know that they require the initial and final versions to be vetted by a team of experts who would have known for sure that this is mis-information.

They're a pain at both ends... I've just received an email about the latest MOT plans, and the survey to show public support for the plan is a dishonest one as well. I'm honestly wondering if our politicians at all levels think we are something to be tolerated and ignored rather than consulted and included.

this makes me laugh to be honest. i cant recall the last time i actually seen anyone NOT wearing a seatbelt in scotland. its just another way of wasting taxpayers money and keeping some useless kurnt straight out of uni in a job. if they wanted to do a campaign then how about showing the public what really happens when a child is hit at 40mph outside a school first thing in the morning. it disgusts me every morning the speed i see people driving at outside schools, the biggest culprit being women.

i'm disgusted, just like the price hike for booze.

i'm tempted to say make a complaint to the IPCC or whatever the watchdog for TV is called. But i also know since its a govt ad they will defend it and say some crud like " the images portrayed are clearly not real but designed to highlight the possible consequences...blah blah blah"

That was made by a firm who was one of our clients when I was a courier, it was filmed on a road I drove every day and I was the muppet who had to bring stuff out to the shoot. I told one of the guys working on it that unless the guy in the BMW drove deliberately into the other car, he'd have ended up in the field at the corner of the Ballystockart road.

Surely that depends on the acceleration felt... which could be drastically changed by wearing a seatbelt.

I'm not sure of the mechanics of it myself, but I'm fairly sure I'd rather trust the designers of the system rather than that the doorpost will give way to my head, as I don't think it would!

It needs to be credible to have any impact.If they were serious they would show CCTV of real crashes happening,and pics of the real results.But they dont because it might offend someone,and we cant have that.
