Or any that will admit to it here!
I have a question which somebody may be able to answer. Does a caravan have to be registered in the UK? Do you have a 'V5' document or something similar?
I ask because I'm thinking of buying a caravan in England and importing it to Sweden, where I live, as they're much cheaper in the UK.
To register it in Sweden, though, I need registration documents.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Charley

No it isn't registered or have any V5 document.

So come and buy one, all you'll get is a reciept after the sale

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong

No, they are basically a trailer, so there are no registration documents at all for a caravan. If youa re exporting it from the UK, you'd better make sure that there are no import duties for you in Sweeden as the savings could be wiped out by them

Part of the EU, so a purchase made in one member state for your personal use would not be liable for any import duty or Vat

although they dont have v5's they do have 'owners book' which really should be present when you buy one. its very very easy to 'ring' caravans as there is no v5.

Thanks for the replies!
As Viney Mavikzap sorted out between them, there is no duty or anything like that.
I suspected as much about the lack of registration. I'll have to call the Swedish DVLA equvalent and find out what they need.:smt120
Thanks again!

Have a read through this thread (http://www.totalfrance.com/france/forum/viewtopic.php?t=40819), OK it's for France but I bet the same issues will apply. Main thing is the documentation required in order to register it in your country, some manufacturers will supply relevant docs but you need to be sure exactly what is required, plus any changes to lighting and gas certs etc.

Hi Embee,
Seems to be on the not-so-straight-forward side!!
I'll just have to call and ask them what they need.
They've recently abandoned the gas and electrics tests in the yearly MOT test here, so maybe they wont need any safety certificates.
We'll see! I hope it's possible, it could be a good moneyspinner!

All you want is a well maintained caravan, but as most caravan owners will look after theirs, its probrably not going to be an issue.

After all you're not going to buy a rubbish caravan if you're coming all the way from Sweden to collect it :p

No V5 etc, but is a Caravan Registration Identification Scheme, a voluntary scheme.

be careful there are a few unscrupelous bods ( of the pikey community) who are swapping new bodies from nicked vans onto old worn out chassis
CRIS will not not pick this up ( i supply one of the componants to this and that is how they are getting past it)
