Now I'm not normally one to quote or highlight articles in the Mail - let's just say I'm not their number one fan - and neither am I one to be unnecessarily running down the police but this article was fairly horrific. I hope the culprit gets a suitably serious punishment for betraying the trust layed upon him as part of his job.

If you read the full thing - it says something about the times of the cctv, cant remember exactly know cause its late and im tired. What a nob that police man was though - but big pat on the back for the female officer for reporting it to another supervisor, cant of been easy reporting her own supervisor, so good on her!

I don't think it is what anybody expects of the police, and I don't think it is something that happens with any great frequency. The thug has got his comeuppance and rightly so.

Guys a fool-cameras everywhere and still does this.Horrible seeing the blood dripping on the floor, he must have been having "a real bad day"-can see him getting time for this and his a$$ pumped in the jail.

I don't believe the bit the Mail has that says she was arrested for no reason, however, that doesn't excuse that guys behaviour. Well over the top!

Gotta be honest, its bad, but not as bad as i thought before seeing the vid.
Problem with even a small head injury is they leak a lot of claret which makes them seem worse.
I have seen cops throw drunken people to the ground on the street worse than that and not result in injury so without wacking her head it wouldnt normally cause injury id guess.

That said, the copper lost his cool but unfortunately resulted in a woman getting injured and it getting caught on camera.
How many coppers have lost their cool in the daily life on the streets?

IMO, that copper who pushed that guy over in london who then died was worse, he was an innocent man walking away.

Unfortunate ending for what it seemed an unreasonable woman. She must have been under emotional stress and admitted to have verbally abused the cop before he lost his cool.

As for her story, since when car heaters run on battery? Sleeping in the car a whole night on a dark alley 150 yards from home while talking to friends? Ah ... my 3 year old can make better stories than that!

it's all a bit "he said, she said" with regards to the point where she was stopped/arrested/taken into custody and also what happened once she was in custody - but - it's the fact she was taken into custody without any injuries, then while she's in custody she ends badly injured which seems to be the focus of the mail...

Mind you, the Sgt. is scottish so it's to be expected. I bet he gets paid in scottish notes as well... sick bastads!

Didn't understand why he was doing on his own. If she was kicking off that much, then it should have been at least 2 officers to restrain her and take her to the cell, which wouldn't have resulted in the injuries she sustained. It wasn't proper A&R technique

Is not like he deliberately inflicted the injuries. It was a freak accident as a result of him badly handling an abusive person.

Yes, he could have been a lot more professional and keep calm but in the end, despite all the training they get, they are only human and we are all susceptible to red mist.

He deserves the consequences and I'm sure he regrets that night but this does not mean that all police officers will react the same and we should be ashamed of them. They are the people we call when things get tough for us and they should get a bit more credit for that.

I do. Seen too many incidents of it reported (normal caveats about believing the press) and many incidents have been reported in this forum.

If I felt I had been arrested for no reason, been told to 'Shut up' every time I tried to protest that particular point, I have no doubt I'd be unreasonable too.

Not all policemen are nice normal Police Officers as is proved time and again. The majority are decent hard working folk in my experience, but the bad apples that abuse the powers they are entrusted with do so much damage to the fragile trust The Public have in The Police.

This case appears a no brainer and I'm surprised he pleaded 'not guilty' on the basis of the video.

I can see why people get arsey with the police, I got locked up for the night in london, and i was sitting in some side room with two coppers, and one of them said something and i thought he was talking to me so i just politely asked 'pardon?' (in a non patronising voice!!)
And all i got was, 'i wasn't f^%$ing talking to you was I shut the f*&^ up!'

No wonder people kick off...

Perhaps 'do as I say or STFU' is standard practice with many forces?

Perhaps you can tell me why the attitude shown in that example is not alienating the person concerned?

Oh my god Mike! Where at any point did I tell you to STFU? I didn't and that was by no means the intention of my post either! And how can I comment on what you quoted? I wasn't there, neither me nor Husky work in England, and I know that this isn't commonplace where I work so what more can I say!!!!!

My comment was flippant aswell, but trying to highlight the fact that some of us actually do get people leaving custody and shaking our hands because we have treated them well, and been polite to them. But DO NOT put words in my mouth, that's really not fair.

At the end of the day you get some coppers that are awsome and some that arnt some people like to over react to everything and cause trouble and some just shut up an put up ... not the police forces fault for evrything that happends they are there to enforce whats given to them there again will always be one or two that abuse there powers...

Most of the police I have dealt with have been polite and courteous and some of them have even gone out of their way to help me out. However some have been rude and unhelpful and a smaller number have been downright *****. I'm not having a go and I have some friends in the police but as with most organisations the bad experiences stick in your head more than the good ones, so you have to understand why some people feel alienated.

If you got generally good customer service from say, your internet provider, they only need to mess you about once or twice and your opinion of them will go down fairly rapidly.

And this is why, Luckypants, I can't comment on the aforementioned story. I wasn't there, I don't know anyone involved, I don't know what was said or what was said in the lead up to it. And perhaps "can't" is the wrong word, but I choose not to comment. I don't see why I should have to justify something I have had no involvment in, which is what you appear to be asking me to do.

As I said, it is NOT common practise where I work and generally, we are fairly well respected because of that.

The Police is like anything else in society - you get a range of characters and personalities, including the not-so-nice ones.

I've had the dubious honour of meeting one or two of the not-so-nice police officers (thankfully not on the wrong end of a baton) in my life, and yes, it's like anywhere else in society, you get the ones who possibly shouldn't be there and you wouldn't really want to associate with out of choice.

Don't tar them all with the same brush, as is the same with everything. That's like saying 'All teenagers are violent drunken thugs', when I am a living breathing example of the falsity of that statement.

PS, I might be opening a can of worms here but I'd much prefer a force that annoys the odd member of the public or gets a little rough sometimes, to a force that is too scared to do anything about anything for fear of being sued.

I don't think Tomski was necessarily trying to discredit tactcom, I think he was trying to make the point that in general, you only ever hear one side of the story in a lot of these kinda things.

As for the guy getting 6 months, well, I think it was the least he could expect.
