I play with it by trying to isolate one of the blobs lol.
I think the reasoning is to annoy, everyone hovers over the logo to see what its about, but you cant with this one :D

Works for me in firefox, doesnt display the reason for it when you click on it so I googled it lol:
Normally, when a user clicks on the Doodle, the reason for the design is displayed as search results.
But unlike most Google Doodles, today's balloon design does not appear to be referring to anything in particular.
Some commentators believe that it is instead an exercise in HTML5 - the latest version of the standard for displaying content on the web.
HTML 5 will give developers far more flexibility and allow features like drag and drop and make the internet far more interactive.
It could also be a demonstration of what Google's latest Chrome browser is capable of producing.
A Google spokesman would only say: 'Today’s doodle is fast, fun and interactive, just the way we think search should be.'

Download and install Chrome / Chromium 100% Acid test compliant http://acid3.acidtests.org/
Should then display the logo.
See pictures if I've attached them correct.
If you try and put your mouse on the google image it moves like you can't catch it?!
ahh my mistake google.co.uk

For all their desire to own the entire internet and control what we see... Google do know how to have a bit of pointless fun :p

On Windows 7 it works in IE8, Firefox and Chrome - not in Opera however...
Correction, works in Opera if you tell google you are using Firefox...
Solution
Go to the site in question.
From the menu, select Tools > Quick preferences > Edit site preferences (Mac: Opera > Quick preferences > Edit site preferences)
Click the "Network" tab
In the "Browser identification" drop-down, select "Identify as Internet Explorer" or "Identify as Firefox"
Click "OK"
Reload the page

There's no such thing as pointless fun! All fun is necessary.

If you corner the large red ball at the bottom of the E it display the anniversary only seems to work in the bottom right corner though.
I'd have completely missed this if it wasn't for this thread - I'm surprised many people except those on IE6 are not using the quick search on their browser. (I know IE 6 still has a big corporate base)
google is my home page.
nobody is actually trying my last post are they i was only joking lol

Has anyone else noticed that in Chrome the little google balls bounce in a 3D motion rather than the IE ones that only go in a 2D motion?

today is bland as hell until you start typing, then the colours come back to the letters one by one.
Think google are trying to make a statement about some kind of new web standards because the interactive logo's haven't been flash/gifs/activeX objects - they're just embedded in the page somehow
