Ayr - Newton Stewart - Dalry - Thornhill - Dalveen Pass

If you're interested, let us know here.

For those Glasgow based, I'll be leaving from East Kilbride so there's a nice run through Muirkirk and Cumnock to get to Ayr of you want to meet up and head through. Either that or it's the M77/A77. But that's just boring.

Hmmmm, do I ride to Ayr or join in an Newton??? Naaaah, ride to Ayr!

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 01:53 PM
You should have just put "Sorry, I can't make it." :D

What time would the meet be in Ayr then?

Milky Bar Kid
09-09-10, 01:54 PM
10? or 1030???

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 02:07 PM
10 Sounds good to me. And how long will the run be, roughly?

SIII
09-09-10, 02:38 PM
Google says 100 miles and 2 hrs 45 Mins.

But that doesn't include the stops, so probably 4 1/2 hours approx ??? Anybody with expierence want to give a better guess?

How about meet up at Dobbies Garden World, just off the A77 on the A70. Only place I can see on the main road where you can go for a pee!

WeegieBlue
09-09-10, 03:46 PM
That sounds like a plan there SIII. Dobbies at 10 it is. The postcode is KA6 5JJ for those that want to check it out.

TheRamJam
09-09-10, 05:54 PM
the A702 is an awesome road think Frankie boy took us down there a while back. Great run!

buckstone
09-09-10, 08:37 PM
Dobbies ? So I'll have to travel a whole 3 miles to the meet-up point ? Oh, alright then

Looking forward to it - hope it's a glorious day ...

GagginForraPint

Seeing as a cant make the ROTSB oan the 10th I may be able to make this one if there are places?

Is there a route posted up and where abouts is th meet in EK and what time??

Cheers

carelesschucca
15-09-10, 02:37 PM
Where ever the meet is in EK it'll have to be fairly early as the meet is in Ayr at 10 doesn't give us much time...

WeegieBlue
15-09-10, 02:38 PM
It's open to everyone so the more the merrier.

The meet in EK will probably be at McD's on Queensway at around 830am. From there it'll be Strathaven, Muirkirk, Cumnock, Ayr, and then Ayr - Newton Stewart - Dalry - Thornhill - Dalveen Pass.

Should be a fun ride, if the weather sorts itself out.

SIII
15-09-10, 02:40 PM
Welcome aboard RamJam. I believe we are now numbering 7:D so yes I imagine space OK.

The proposed route is setting off from Dobbie's in Ayr and riding down past Girvan to Newton Stewart, from there across to New Galloway and St John's of Dalry and then along A702 to Moniaive and then past Thornhill and continue on A702 Dalveen Pass - upto the motorway.

Then i guess making own way back? upto Weegie land or back across to D&G? Not finalised the last part! Any suggestions?:confused::confused::confuse d:

As for meet in EK - WeegieBlue needs to arrange that?

Guess WeegieBlue can type faster than me! I am lucky if I get to two fingers at a time.

WeegieBlue
15-09-10, 02:42 PM
I have a mate who'll be coming along, and possibly one other, so numbers are increasing nicely.

Still on for it, and may even have a new SV owner with me too.

On the way back, I'll probably head up through Thornhill and back to Ayr via Cumnock. Presume there's a natural split point somewhere for anyone from EK direction ? Will check the map when I get home.

WeegieBlue
15-09-10, 04:39 PM
From Cumnock it's just back to Muirkirk and Strathaven so easy enough.

Should have scraped enough sheckles to put a new boot on the SV by then and fix the speedo(again!....been doing 186mph in the 30's and getting 500+miles to a tank of gas. :) )

See y'all at MuckD's on the Queensway at 8:30am?

I shall be there, McBreakfast in hand!

For those wanting to leave from EK it's McD's drive thru leaving at around 830. Can you let me know who's setting off from there?

For those meeting at Ayr it's Dobbies at 10. Who's that gonna be?

How do you make a picture part of the post and not an attatchment?

Good work SIII! Do we know if we're going to stop somewhere for a bit of lunch or are we just riding on throughout?

I really hope it's a nice day weather wise - especially as this weekend was perfect weather for a run out. If it's raining I'll be gutted!

SIII
28-09-10, 01:22 PM
Roughly 1/2 way along the route is Roadkill Cafe(Clatteringshaw Visitor Centre and Cafe), on the banks of Clatteringshaw Loch. Would be a good place to stop for a spot of lunch or buy a mars bar and a brew. And has toilets.

Of course this is very weather dependent as if its wet and windy - it is a very exposed spot.

Do ride outs usually still happen when its really wet? I haven't actually ridden my SV in the rain yet and a little apprehensive. Was reading an account of a rideout that took place iirc around wales a few weeks ago and ended with 2 bikes wrecked and 1 rider in hospital! Kinda puts the fear into you:confused:

This isn't looking good. Even more annoying as MKB made us move the date with her eyelash batting and has now baled on us!!

I think we'll take a view on it tomorrow and see who's still fancying it and who's not. If interest wanes we can postpone until we get a dry weekend and then just throw it together short notice.

BBC weather still showing wet in morning around Dumfries and Galloway.
If its still hammering it down, road over the top of the hills from me to Ayr can be a little exposed.

So can I suggest a meet up point of the Petrol Station in Newton Stewart ( As you come into Newton Stewart turn left over the bridge (B7079) and petrol station is on the left after 100 yards, is on route so no detour required) if thats OK?

Hopefully weather will be good at 8.30 and I can join for the whole ride!:smt026 and meet you at dobbies at 10.00.

Hi Tony

I only passed my CBT in July and my full test at the end of August so I'm pretty much a newbie myself! Everyone will ride to their ability so there'll no doubt be a range of speeds.

This is also my first proper ride out so we're in the same boat. Just come along - sure you'll enjoy it!

myself and jim are still up for this.:smt026
weegie we will meet you at straven on the muirkirk slip off.we'll be there from 08:45-09:00.i'll pm you my mobile so you can txt me before you leave E.K.
jim spoke to RAMJAM today and he's having to pull out so i don't know if the other 2 he was bringing will still be going.if he changes his plans he can always phone jim to meet up with us.

i have been most of the route we plan to take several times and most of it should be ok after the heavy rain but the bit between dalry and thornhill will have a lot of loose gravel and dirt so its just a case of taking it easy.

So will you be at the top of that straight bit of road that bend to the left over the wee bridge at the bottom?

Lots of dropouts this morning. Think this might be cancelled. There's only me in EK (not heard from Sc00by), gedt5 in Strathaven and then SIII and tony in Ayr. That coupled with the weather doesn't bode well :(

Weather wet and windy down here. (I live close to route 'bout 1/2 way along). Not looking good.

I am not going to make it to Ayr but if you guys make it to Newton Stewart, I will try to get out there?

If you guys in EK decide to cancel, don't blame you, if the weather is a sh**e as it is down here!

Just sent you a text mate. Think we'll need to postpone this run. Weather is grim and I don't fancy getting soaked and wobbling my way round all day.

If you look at the 5 day weather forecast on the BBC web-site right now, the icon for Saturday is a big, fat sun !!!! Probably be raining then ......

But if it's not, I'll be there.

You do realise the 10th is Sunday!
but yes all predictions are saying that more settled weather is due for this weekend and next week. So yes a big sun on Saturday bodes well.

Weegie do you wait till I am typing a reply on this thread before sneaking one in in front of me?
