I been thinking about this for a while and I think it might be something good to do for charity.
The Full A470 Ride.
It is only 186 miles, but, takes the A470 from where it "starts" in Cardiff to where it "ends" in Llandudno. I'm definitely up for that, we could make a weekend of it and stay over in Llandudno (the hotels are gonna be mostly empty).

This is not going to be a speed run. I plan to have a nice ride from Caerdydd to Llandudno through some amazing scenary, but, always on just one road...

Just so everyone knows there isn't any confirmed date for this. I am just gauging interest and seeing if it is feasible. This might not happen till next year (early most likely) as the weather now is getting unpredictable (understatement in the UK) and so may need "calmer" weather of the early months 2011.
Also, I was thinking as I want this to raise some money for charity anyone begrudge doing this for Ty Hafan or H4H?

You're welcome! You don't have a newbies section, so I went straight for the rideouts ;) Am doing a long one in April next year, so won't be able to make this one if the dates clash. I so hope they don't, LOL!

A55, M56, M6, M5, M50, A449, M4, A470, home. Simples (and gets the pent up speed out of your system)
sounds interesting, might be interested in this run, most i've ever done is up to builth wells so headding the entire length of the a470 would be rather interesting, i thought it dissappeared somewhere inmid wales too.
prehaps do it for the Noaha's Ark Appeal - for a dedicated childrens hospital in wales.
Registering interest.
What are you thinking of in terms of sponsorship? Rider and/or pillion pay a donation that's given (idea being to get a large group) or each rider to raise what they can from friends/colleagues etc.
If the later, you may want to put a time limit in place.. e.g. Ride Wales from Dawn til Dusk.

The route back is not set in stone, but, I'll see what people are up for. I don't mind, I'll ride anywhere, lol
As for the sponsorship part I was thinking that everyone who comes pays a “fee” that I or other designated person can collect and then we can send it to whichever charity we choose to donate to.
I am glad there has been an interest in this, I was wondering if I was gonna be riding on my own, rofl

You need to be very careful promoting timed events, can easily be misinterpreted as racing against the clock.

The event will not be "timed," it will be setting off from a designated time and a get to North Wales when we get there kind of thing
I appreciate the terminology may not be correct guys, but I wasn't insinuating a race. All I was trying to do was get the cogs turning where the "sponsorship" aspect is concerned.

I appreciate that Rich, but, in this P.C. world you got to get careful about how things are worded, so, having a "time" to a "time" might get people thinking be got to be off by one time (racing to get to the start point) and there by another time (racing to get there)
I am not sure how it could be worded for the charitable angle.
It is simply going to be a ride from South to North. As far as I can work out it shouldn't take more than about 6 hours even if we just "cruise" it.
Also, I would ask the charity that the money would be going to if they have any input on the name. Just got to decide who the charity is going to be...

I might be tempted to do this. Maybe come down the day before, stay over, then A470 it back with you guys. If you get a date sorted with plenty of notice, I'll see if anyone else in the North Wales area fancies it to have a group come down to escort you to the real Wales. :D
Whatever you decide to do is up-to-you and it's indeed admirable that you want to do something.
I will keep my eye on developments.

I am thinking that considering the distance, roads to be covered and logistics involved how does everyone feel about "Spring" 2011? If it is in April/May time then hopefully the weather will be warm and dry enough while the days will also be long enough to have the whole thing in day light. @ LuckyPants; typical North Walian talk! 1. I won't have enough brownie points.
B. A470 on a bank holiday not good.

Any bank holiday is instantly ruled out because not only the A470, but, any other road that we might want to use to get back would be too busy for my liking.
I was thinking this might have to be a Sunday run, maybe, as most traffic heads south on Sundays IMO... But, then I would have to do an up and back job in a day...
Not that that bothers me, I rode from Hawrich to my house from 9pm to 2:30am :-D

I spose so, but if was on a saturday for example, would leave the option open to spend a night some where to break up either the ride up and down the A470 or the trip to and from it.

Right, to keep everyone appraised; I have been in contacted Ty Hafen and am waiting to see what they think about the whole idea. But, incase they do not take to it, can anyone else think of a charity that it would be nice to give the money to?

Well, Ty Hafan I don't think are taking me seriously, so, I think that maybe if we donate to Help For Heroes and The Bike Experience Charity that'll be a good cross section.
As for the date, well, I got to work out a few things as I am only really free on alternation weekends, but, I think if we do this on a Saturday, it would be better for most as they can ride up Friday night and have Sunday to ride back to where they need to get to

Ok that sounds reasonable. Would have to provide some notice though so that people can find places to stay if needed. Also guessing the donated amount per person also has to be decided?

Yeah, I was planning on giving enough notice, not just "next weekend."
I will PM everyone who has posted in here when I have sorted the date to see who wants to do it.
I wouldn't mind if people would look into being sponsered to do it, that way we can give that bit more to each charity. I know my boss has said he would sponser me and I am sure I could "milk" my family, ha ha

Up and back in a day can be done, but, I was looking to see if we can do the up route on the Saturday and then everyone spend the evening having a chat and drinks before we all head out separate ways Sunday

Ok well just to be helpful I am fine with either. However breaking up the trip up and back might make it abit easier on people traveling from far away...plus it involves drinks which is always good.
Has this rideout been confirmed yet?
I'd like to join in if I can get my bike back on the road in time :)

I want to try and make this so as many people as want to join, can. This doesn't have a confirmed date, I hope to find 5 mins on the weekend to sort some dates, but, if you want to join or you know anyone who wants to join, feel free :-)

The A470 sends just a street short of the seafront in Llandudno, there's plenty of hotels around there not to mention a few decent pubs :D

Sounds good but 25% chance i will be on call. Worst comes to worst can be done in a day. Although 350 miles of riding will take a good 6/7 hours on a rideout.

Would have thought it would take longer than that on a rideout, with the need for more frequent stops for petrol/nicotine/food. But as you say, it is doable.

30th April is a bank holiday weekend (Royal wedding and May Day holidays) so the road will be very busy in certain sections, I would expect the speed vans to be out in force as well. No problem if everyone is happy to carve traffic, but worth considering.

My problem lies in that I can only do alternate weekends as I have my daughter every other weekend. So, go from the 14th May onwards and then I can do every other weekend after that, lol

Your ride dude, pick a date, set a meet time and place to suit you - then put it out there for anyone else of us that would like to do it / can make the date. :cool:
