Well today is my last day in her Majestys Air Force. Done 9 years all based at Odiham fixing Chinook helicopters. 4 Afghan tours and 1 Iraq. Gonna miss the lifestyle and sense of responsibility, but most of all the people. It's not what it used to be, not by a long shot but I wouldn't change a thing.

For one i'd like to say thanks for the service you've given over the years mate-our guys and girls in the forces don't get the recognition that they deserve.

Cool job, those lovely choppers. Well done mate and enjoy what ever you do next.

I think most jobs aren't what they used to be. Mine certainly isn't

You are right when you say it's not the same as it used to be.

I only have 2 years 6 months left from today for my 22. The people and social side will probably be the thing you miss the most.

Thanks all, much appreciated. Yeah i'm definately going to miss the social side of it, beer calls at work, fancy dress etc etc....

Here's some of us on a trip to the church in london, the theme was brittney spears and the phone call went something like this...

'Si we're all off as britney spears in different outfits'

'Cool, everyones not going as the schoolgirl are they?'

'No course not, there's loads to choose from, schoolgirl, air hostess, etc..'

'k cool, i have a good one.'

So i turn up at the railway station to be confronted by everyone wearing the same outfit, great. I looked like a cross dressing bobslayer.

My Dad is on his last week in the Royal Air Force this week. After 30 years of service!!
He's struggling to find a job at the moment and as you can imagine after 30 years is somewhat institutionalised. Im sure he'll find his feet soon though although he's hoping they may give him one more year to hand over his job to boeing...he has applied to boeing for the job too :)

Spoken like a true old sweat crusty chief ;)

I remember being genuinely scared of getting a beating off my corporals when I first turned up, not these days. Far too pink and fluffy!

congratulations on doing your time, however long it may or may not have been. I was in WRNS for 4 years, too many rules for me unfortunately. good luck finding a job you enjoy

Why did you decide to leave if you don't mind me asking? Reason I ask is that I'm hoping to join the REME as an aircraft technician, got my ADSC selection weekend on the 27th. Going to be tough!
