I left work early on Friday so I could take my daughter gymnastics as I rarely get a chance to.

"Come on Daisy, get my car keys and lets go"

"Can Mummy take me"

"Why?"

"Just because..."

"You are always asking me to take you though, so I left early so I could, get my keys and we can get going or we'll be late"

10 year old daughter enters the room and gives me Mummy's car keys

"These are Mummy's keys, go and get mine"

"Why can't we go in Mummy's car?"

"Because I have started mine for over a week and it needs a run"

"But please..."

SOUND OF A PENNY FINALLY DROPPING!

"Is there something wrong with my car?"
"Yeah it's well embarrassing!"

"I thought you liked it and thought it was cool?"

"Yeah, but only if nobody sees me in it!!!"

So I took her in the other car and tried hard not to be grumpy, she is only 10 and a few days but already embarrassed of me.

I have to admit I am a bit the same, but I only use it occassionally and it seems pointless to get anything better.

I do remember my old man having a really **** car and me feeling the same so I sort of feel for her...

Don't worry, they are scared you will embarrass them for the rest of their lives.

You will not be allowed to talk to their friends, definitely not their boyfriends. You must not dance at their weddings etc. It is your job to dispense cash and never been seen.

Part of the unwritten rules of fatherhood. Oh and big no no is to look at an attractive girl whilst driving with them in the car. or is is :-

Dad you pervert, she is in my class!

Oh and the reason I was never allowed to drop them at school was because I played classic FM and their friends may hear when the open the door.

Well I have a bright green skip, no wait that's what it looks like...it is actually an old golf convertible.

The wifes car is only a punto but has no dents dings or laquer falling off it.

I think if it were my daughter I would be having a quiet conversation about how it made me feel too.

I had to go to school in a Skoda Rapid.

I made sure I got dropped off a long way from school, and walked the rest of the way. It was with a women who I hated, but went past my school, which was 7 miles away.

Then my dad got a Rapid too, whilst digging out our garden (340 tonnes!!!). He used to chuck all the old concrete in the front and take it to the skip.

He was offended when I said no when he offered it to me.

Dads just don't understand what being cool is it seems

Heh I'm sure that will happen to us all soon enough =p, mines 4 months old and lights up when I get home from work.
Give it a few more years and I'm sure she'll be critiquing my clothes/hair/vocabulary etc :)

My mums reduced her attempts to embarass me to death to buying me ludicrous clothing at every oppertunity but she wouldn't be my mum if she didn't :)

(Last Christmas she got me a very nice pair of jeans with a fantastic Skull/Snake/Flame Motif down the right leg....such a shame it was in sequine , but she's certainly improving!)

Get used to it Kev, dads just aren't very cool....

My daughter likes going to school in the (11 year old) Discovery, cos there are lots of em in north Shropshire, so she gets on with all the farmers kids.

I remember a kid who used to come to school in a brown reliant robin with his dad.. he got seriously bullied by all the horrible kids. Think he's in prison now?

But I live in Dartford...so maybe I should just get one of those dimma bodykits and ridiculously wide rims on the golf then!

She would love that - Mrs.H on the other hand has banned pillion rides since she found out that we went out for a ride on the CBR and almost went as fast as the speed limit on a 50mph road.

Quote that I done 140 when I was 6 on the back of my dads FZR1000

I was so light he forgot I was there (I understand this from taking lightweight pillions). As soon as I tapped him on the back and went "faster daddy faster" he slowed down. Killjoy....

As for Dartford, and a green Golf, fits right in doesn't it ;)

Dammm if my missis told me no, i'd give her a right slapping  Fortunatly for me, she loves it.

My Dad used to take me on the back of his daytona 955i, that was a very loud way to get dropped off at school.

I tought it was a parent's legal responsibility to embarass their kids? That's what I tell my 13 year old daughter.

+1 to the I'm middle aged but my parents still embarass me club...

You guys have obviusoly lost your inner child, get them back, go and out embarrass em.

Go shopping with them or to a nice place to eat and then tug on their arm and say quietly "I need to go to the loo", they will look at you strangley and probably either tell you to shut up or wonder if they heard you correctly.

Tug their arm again and say a bit lounder so people can hear you "But I REALLY need the loo", they'll start to go red and wonder what's going on and then the big ending, tug their arm really hard and say loudly "DAAAAAAAD, I NEED A POOOOOOOO!"

Works everytime

Get used to it Kev, dads just aren't very cool....

You want to borrow mine for a bit, see if she likes that one

I love embarassing my daughter. I think of it as a kind of revenge for all the 'I'm having a poo' faces she made in public as a baby.

Trouble is, on the way to her wedding, as we got in the wedding VW campervan lovebus to get to the church , when I asked for reassurance that I looked ok, she said that she was proud that I'm her mum! Pah!

I'll have to work on embarassing the granddaughter now!

PS I wish I had mod rights to correct the grammar of this thread title

+1 - I have a corsa. It's a 1.3cdti however so it's not exactly a boy racer car ;) 60mpg and group 4 insurance. Yay!

i hope this was a joke....volvos have never been cool, its what my father and my granddad drives. yeah they're indestructable, thats thats it really.

and the only reason they're cool now? Twilight books/films. so unless you're 40 + or a 14 year old girl lusting after RPatz, get out of the volvo!!! ;)

I used to be heavily into modified cars. Missis has a show winning mag cover car. Mine was more subtle. I arranged a corsa vx saxo day at Brunters, put those french tin driving boyracers in their place

I didn't do carparks and McDonalds, I done shows, stands, trackdays, and European showcar trips ;)

As for the S40 being a cool car? Seriously? For real? *stutters* Only way any volve is slightly cool is an 850 with a T5 lump

I'll let you off with that one Ed  Those are actually quite nice.

But we spec'd one up. Basic car price was ok, but once you'd added twin exhaust, sat nav etc, it went through the roof. Reminded me of the current S3 we're getting delivered in a few weeks time (gearbox went on the VXR astra, so ordered a new S3 in white, NOM). Difference was the audi has a nicer interior.

But i really like those C30's!! Big factory wheels and full works treatment and they look pukka.
