Do both, one on the way up, other one on the way down :)

I was at a campsite in Glenbrittle, there's another one but I haven't stayed there in Sligachan.

You can ask Haggis or Wulfie, they are our Skye residents :)

Glenbrittle campsite is absolutely lovely.

Wherever you are camping watch for the midges, they'll drain all your blood in about an hour if you're lucky and consider DEET repellent strong enough to melt plastic as we would consider HP sauce...

A keen frost'll fettle them feckers.

Didn't work this year, we had a bad winter and worse midges!

Nah, mean now - agree a good cull results in keener efforts on their part to reinstate numbers.

Best thing to battle the midgies is Avon Skin So Soft. I was sceptical at first when I was told about it, but honestly it does work. It is used by foresters and royal marines.

You get it in a spray bottle, so just shut your eyes and spray it everywhere :)

baldricc I know it's not camping but there's a great B&B called 'The Clachaig' in Glencoe that I stayed at with some mates which was fantastic - worth a look if you want to go via the Highlands, particularly if the weather is sh**e and you want somewhere warm & dry to stay!

Tiger 55 on here recommended a route for a day's riding from there that took me to Skye - awesome roads and scenery! See this thread (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=138434). The route up to Skye from Glencoe is linked to in Tiger's 1st reply in the thread.

Do the coast road from Oban to the Kyle, even in bad weather it gives the natural beauty and the ruggedness an amazing aspect
A68 Edinburgh---Kincardine Bridge--A84-A85-A82-A85-Oban

Oban-A828-A830--Mallaig[Ferry]
or
Oban-A828-A82-A87-Kyle Lochalsh

If the weather is inclement I can recommend the youth hostel in the square at Portree £15 and safe parking at the rear--several good eateries nearby and the bakery does excellent rolls for breakfast
