Firstly, dont touch my thread title, cos that will take me over the edge.

o2 and apple need to be ****ing shot.
That POS 3GS iphone is ****ing **** and called them today to tell them this.
Ive had this contract exactly 30 days today, the phone has been useable for probably half this period, it was replaced on the 4th Sep, which does exactly the ****ing same as the old one.
No ****ing service keeps coming up randomly, could be after 30 mins could be after 5 hours.
Once this comes up, it will NOT come back into service unless i turn it off and back on again.
Anyway useless bint on the phone help desk said nothing she can do can i take it back to the o2 store to be sent away for inspection /repair.
Im ****ing self employed, i aint got ****ing time to run about trying to sort this ****ing phone out, the final nail in the coffin, i dont even get another iphone as a loaner, i get another POS, which will probably have signal all the time.
I had to pay £89 upfront for this ****ing POS as well cos the the 8gb versions were out of stock and pay £35 a month for 2 years.
So to say im ****ing annoyed is an understatement :smt013:smt013:smt013:smt013

so glad I never dealt with 02 ever.
That is ridiculous, they should change it no quibbles with the newness of the handset/ contract.

Feel better for ranting

You were had! I payed £99 for the iPhone 4 for unlimited txts and internet and huge amount of calls only £30 for 2 years on 3, signal is great after being told by all the other networks that if I switched I wouldn't be able to get any signal with 3! More proof of the robbing b*st*rds O2 are!!

How does the sim work in other devices ? Also, just take the iphone into the apple store and they will swap it there and then you.
If you don't like it keep the new replacement with seals and place into your box and sell it on eBay you will get near what it costs new. And buy a different phone.
I would suggest geting a replacement simcard jus off the off chance as it does happen I see it quite often with my mobile fleet at work around 300 users and you do get dodgy ones now and again.

The last o2 operator was brilliant tbh, he went through the standard things and one of them was to put my sim in to my wifes 3G and it worked fine as did hers in mine.
But the phone at the time was working at that particular time so wouldnt have noticed a problem anyway.
What i might try tomorrow is take my wifes 3G to work for the whole day with my sim and see what happens.
Id love it to be the sim, i really would.

BTW, the woman at 02 said they cant just replace it at apple either. it would have to be sent away for an engineer to look at it, apparently.

Woman at 02 doesn't know what she is talking about, apple will swap the phone there and then at the apple store. Just walk into an apple store tell them it keeps dropping signal and they will swap it for you on the spot.

Can you not downgrade it then.

My 3G is still on whatever the last version of OS 3 was and I am not intending on upgrading it either. Phone works fine like it does, I dont need or want the extra stuff that 4 gives.

Dont think so, not officially anyway.
Where my theory breaks down is the replacement i had after 2 weeks had original software as well and that was crap right from the off.

May be worth reading up on jailbreaking your phone. See if it makes a difference? I jailbreak my iphones (had a 3g and just upgraded to the 4) and have no problems although mine isn't jailbroken at mo on 4.1.

I have read up on this problem though, the only way I read about it was to go to 'reset network settings' which apparently works...

Done that a few times, seems to work for a bit, then normal service resumes :(

Yep, but my sim, when tried in the wifes phone worked fine, but that was only a short while.
But its also the same sim that worked fine in the first phone until i done a software upgrade.

I can understand this, I after listening to your troubles, not thinking update the OS. Now im going to have words with O2 about this. I can get much signal, the 3g net access haha unless im wifi connected....... so i have a Smart phones thats only good for checking the time. Stupid apple junk.

I want a HTC Desire.

hindle8907

Yeah apple are crap..... iv had three now and I keep going back because they are so rubbish !!

No signal issues only in known black spots / poor signal areas on both the 1g 3g and iphone4 on o2, the touch screens are accurate iv never once had sync problems with M$ exchange, I utilise all the decent apple and 3rd party apps in cydia the iphones look good and feel solid compared to most other devices , the phone fits perfectly into my work life as an IT tech. I also manage a large mobile feet of around 300-350 users all using devices from blackberry's to rugged Windows mobile PDA's and alot of management have HTC and iphones Too so I regularly get to set-up, test and play with the all the latest phones.
Yes my next phone may be an android but at the moment im sticking with my iphone4.
But what does annoy me is that most people with an Android phone think apple are crap and that's the be all and end all.
Both apple / android devices are excellent devices and just as good as each other, both have good and bad points but just to say one is the best and everything else is crap is just stupid.
we should be happy that our mobile devices keep evolving and getting better and better and stop bitching about one or the other.
and working in a IT dept and managing a mobile fleet I see alot of faulty sets and believe me iphones are near the bottom of the list.

o2 can be obstuctive of this sort of thing. Bad press and all that. However, i to date, have never ahd an issue and i have been with them for over 10 years in all.

Have you tried downlaoding the HTC app. Makes your phone run Android and works really well?

Seems like a lot of odd suggestions TBH.

He's self employed, paid for a phone that should work... not a "build it yourself" course in DIY phone upgrading... it's f***ed. Therefore is unfit for purpose. Therefore is costing him money. I suggest going down to the local O2 shop and causing a stink.

P.S hindle 10/10 for biting at the bait like normal :-P

Special, after my recent success in comet with the gift card, if you do intend on causing a stink in the O2 shop, I suggest lots of swearing and when they threaten to call the police use phrases like 'bring it' and 'good, I'll call them myself!'

If your freelance and need your phone so badly for reliant on work, why did you buy a first generation iproduct, knowing the bad reviews it has had, and the likely hood of its failure why not wait until the next generation?

Putting that aside, yes you have a phone on contract that doesnt provide the service, back to the shop with it to complain, only way I think.

Orange are exactly the same. I've had the same issues with my daughter's iPhone, Apple said to send everything back via their courier, so daughter did - including the SIM - courier lost the package, we now have another phone but no SIM, and trying to get one off of Orange is impossible. I've lost count of how many calls we've made to people who don't speak intelligible English, it's so frustrating, and I've cancelled the direct debit in the hope that this will prompt a call from someone who knows what they're talking about.

Better rally the troops though dude, there's not that much good weather left. We had a big org group do Mallory last year in November. Would NOT recommend doing that again; it was fooking dangerous and painfully cold
