Any more EVE online players started since my last post about 2 years ago? I stopped playing for a few months, mainly due to money. But winters coming, dark nights, no playtime on the bikes, so im either pondering hooking up my xbox online for the first time ever (had the git 3 years ha ha), or whether to renue my EVE Online subscription.

Dunno what it is, google it. It'll take you forever to learn the damn thing.

So, Xbox, or Eve....

With the Xbox, can you like download new tracks for games like Forza and any updates for MotoGP games (New WSB looks good)? I think the standard tracks on Forza are terrible.

EVE is one of the best MMOs, as it's not about swords and beards and elves. It's like Elite, you buy ships, trade, travel, fight. I'd love to play it but I don't have the time so I dabble in WURM Online instead.

Unlike Forza 2, there've been NO new track packs for Forza 3 (though all the DLC from Forza 2 is in Forza 3 by default), just car packs. I'm disappointed too, but then I found I got bored of Forza 3 a lot quicker too...

There's no track packs for the SBK games, not sure about the MotoGP games as I haven't bothered with those in years.

(if you are gonna get Forza 3, wait a while, the GOTY edition with all the extra car packs is out soonish)

Eve online, awesome game, just takes up to much time. I subbed a while back, but found i wouldn't get much of anything else done so canceled. As much i'd love to play it again (Itll even run on my mac book!) i think that my second year of uni is going to be a bit too time consuming to actually get anywhere decent on it.

I've already got Forza 2 + 3, PGR, MotoGP games (theme goign on here  ), but it gets boring doing the same tracks.

Mej: http://eve-online.com/

A decent Level 4 mission takes a good few hours including salvaging. But hauls in muchos moniez. Its a good game i've just never played it to its potential.

When I started there were only 25,000 players odd online at any one time. Thats doubled to over 50,000 now, so they are raking the cash in.

I played the 14 day free trial on EVE. I enjoyed it but I don't really have the patience to get to a decent level really.

I haven't played EVE in ages, its that monthly cost that gets me as I might not play it for a month, so its been wasted. I'm on Xbox live... my tag is in my sig.

on Eve online, don't low XP player's spaceship constantly get vaporized by player's at level 10000+ with death star sized spaceships?

i was on eve online for about three years and was almost about to buy one of them carriers. girlfriend wasn't happy about the amount of time eve chewed up so i quit about 9 months ago.

brilliant game but too involved for me these days.

Quit Eve about a year ago, transfered the toon to a friends account too so i would never be lured back.

Too much of a time sink, and once you start a mission, thats it, you really have to go the whole way. The old 'Just 1 more before bed' left me up till 3am too often.

That said, i managed to cancel all my accounts till last month ans have since just reupped my EQ account of all things, damned good fun now!

Thing about EVE (apart from as Yahtzee on Zero Punctuation saying a lot of it is for 'nerds who are to nerds what nerds are to normal people') is you are spending a lot of money for a game that plays itself. Because you don't actually fly the ship, you just click and it does it for you, and you set a skill training and and then just log back off if you don't feel like doing anything else while it trains up.

I can't really throw stones, I play WURM and have built two boats consisting of hundreds of parts each (and each has to be attached one at a time, and you can 'fail' to attach and have to start again, sometime a dozen times PER PLANK) but at least you have to be there and doing stuff almost constantly. There's also the satisfaction of starting with just some bare land and building yourself a little homestead completely by hand.

In eve online, i managed to set up a Missle/Rocket production line and then sell them at nearby stations. Bought an original blueprint, cant remember what level but was an original.

Ive always been interested in WW2 Online - theres too darned many MMO's to choose from nowadays!

If Eve wasn't so pricey and I could stop and start my account as needed I might play it more. At the moment I'll stick to Xbox live.

Every now and then I pop back on to Runescape fora bit of a laugh. When I was 15/16 all my mates played it and we were all paying members. I stopped paying for it years ago.

I still find Runescape quite fun and like the fact that you don't have to pay for it.

Tried adding you on live last night. Wouldn't let me for some reason.
Is your friends list full?

metalangel
16-09-10, 08:46 AM
That's a point, the whole reason they closed down support for original Xbox games on Live was because they (specifically Halo 2) were somehow restricting your friends list to 100. That was months ago, and there's still the 100 limit.

Reeder
16-09-10, 09:07 AM
It's ghey isn't it.
I only have about 10 :)

Nope not me... I don't have that many friends.

Well maybe Xbox live was just being a bender then.

metalangel
16-09-10, 10:06 AM
It was nice having 100 (most of whom no longer play) just because it stops all the screaming elmos who you have one game with trying to friend you. Anyone who was genuine I'd just erase one of the 'dead' ones to make room.

Reeder
16-09-10, 10:13 AM
People trying to friend me after one game? That never happens with me :(

Been there with that one....

You coming to bed?
I'll be 10 minutes dear...

45 minutes later your still salvaging your 5 gate L4 mission

Also, whats these other games people are mentioning?

I looked at Star Trek Online when it was in its Beta (im not a trekkie, i just like sci-fi). I think its online and playing now? I'll have a nosey.

Thing is, Eve IS fun, but as I say i've never really played it properly. Never in a decent corp, never been to 0.0, and im really not into this "talking to people" online. Im a typer. Mining is boring (got a friend who plays it and is a miner trying to tempt me back), and i've spent my entire time doing missions. Last I think I had a fully T2 Navy Raven. Earnt 500k Loyalty points, bough the blueprint, built one, then it dissapeared, wasting the entire time i'd spent. That made me strop and stop  But as said, its bloody expensive, even paying for 6 months at a time.

I did like strategy games like Command and Conquer too.

Lucas

talking of strategy games, anyone tried RUSE?

warhammer 40k was the last one I played, really enjoyed it, lots of detailed action, interesting squad development too.

Played the demo last night for 360 - thought it was really good. First RTS game to play well on a console and the added RUSE cards make it a lot more interesting than the usual build a **** load of troops then send them in-type RTS, which a lot seem to be.

Things like line of sight, where your troops can hide behind buildings and in forests for ambushes makes it much better as well.

Grinch
16-09-10, 12:42 PM
RUSE - YEs jumped in OK even though I was a little drunk, I was still not 100% happy with the unit selection. Seemed troublesome to fight battles on 2 fronts, unless you where prepared to do lots of zooming in and out. Might be better if I played it zoomed out and only zoomed in when needed.

Pffff just went to try STO and it wants a 5gb download to play in a demo mode!! Screw that, thats probably 2-4 days download at the crappy 85kbs I seem to have.

Signed up for the forum, to ask questions etc, 8 hours ago. Im still waiting activation.

Lame....

ethariel
16-09-10, 05:49 PM
I wouldnt bother with STO, it was a dismal launch, all hype but the best action was rubberbanding halfway back round the station hald the time.

Sure you can level, grind (yep i do mean grind) out the xp till you max your level then............

LoTRO just went freeplay, if you like fantasy, try that one its supposed to be much more polished than it was on release, likewise DDO is also 10000% better than at launch and quite playable, with either of those 2, a simple £5 purchase of 'Turbine Ponts' once ever opens up the 'Premium' stuff and additional toon slots.

EQ2 went freeplay and pay for upogrades but Sony being Sony missed the point, it costs about double to activate what you used to get for a std subscription.

Space wise the new Starwars will be launching in 9 to 12 months, it looks exceptionaly good so far, just waiting on that to come out.

Have played virtually every MMORPG that has come out since Ultima Onlne, to be honest, EQ is thr only one i just cant get out of my system! lol

Startrek online was such a disappointment, especially for round abouts a decade in development. Whats even more insulting, is that despite paying a monthly fee, they also have an online shop to buy other miscellaneous shiz. I pre-ordered it off play, started playing the beta and promptly cancelled it.

Runescape was an immense game, used to play at the age of 13-15, i played the old runescape and then transfered to runescape 2 when it was released. At ~£3 a month, it was great value for money.

Lucas, if you enjoyed Warhammer, try company of heroes; extremely similar but much better (both made by Relic)

Ruse seems okay, but not something im willing to blow £30-£40 on.

Just had a nose at EQ2. Seems a bit fantasy wow to me. Not really into that. But the cyber chick on this looks hot. Is that weird? Yes (slaps face, weirdo....) ha ha

http://everquest2.com/gameinfo/overview

Will have a nose at Runescape, and google Star Wars online. That sounds fun.

I don't want to be a gamer geek, I just want something to play on in the evenings after work when its dark and miserable.

I'd love to try Star Trek online but I never see a demo, all I see is the full version for £39.99 on Steam! Stuff that!

If I had the time I'd probably love EVE (I almost started back in 2005 but at the time was still putting my life back together after nearly screwing it all up playing Neocron too much) but I just don't have enough time any more.

As I say though, 5gb download which is epically lame I think.

I'm not playing any MMO's at the moment. But the ones I will be playing when they come out is Guild Wars 2 ( looks awesome ) and Jumpage Evolution ( which i'm not 100% sure, but will give it a go ).
