View Full Version : bt-021 front, is uneven wear normal ?
Im 16 stone in kit, bike is a k9 650 sport wich has standard front forks pre-load is set one full turn back from max.
Was just wondering if its normal for the shoulders on these bt-021`s to be slick wel before the rest of the tire still have 2.5mm center & 5mm at far edge of tred but as u can c from pics shoulder are as slick as race rubber.
Would like to know if this is a ridding style or set-up issue as have a new set of 021`s waiting to be fitted?
Many thanks for your knowledge again

tyre pressures/suspension
As I'm a big lad should I increase tyre pressure ?? I've been running with 33front & 36 rear??
But the rear has squared off as u would expect across the center just like the front & rear did on the standard dunlops !!!

This is normal wear for a front tyre; they always wear most at about the angle you lean to most often. People who avoid motorway, trunk road, town riding and use mostly twisty roads will notice this most.

I think you may be going into bends off the throttle. This pushes the front wheel whilst it's leaning, so scrubs the shoulders.
If that's what you are doing, try setting the bend up better, then power through it, pushing the bike with the back wheel, rather than the back end pushing the front.
Tyre pressures and forks sound fine.

I think the recommended pressures for BT021s is 36/42, non?

Yup you may want to run a slightly higher pressure. Bridgestones do though seem to have a tendancy to wear like that.
Terrible tyre the 021, the dodgy wear characteristics are well documented.
The front I took off had a 50p sized 2.5mm raise around the centre of the tyre where the hard compound was too hard for the soft compound sides.

^^^^^^ totally agree g. i had two on my sv and both wore to a point in the centre. quite unsettling turning in too. had michelins after that and never had a problem again. vowed never to have bridgestones sport touring again.
As a general rule I've found, the stiffer the carcass the more likely they are to wear like that. With a soft carcass the contact patch is spread over a larger area and that type of wear although it still happens it is not so obvious.
When I had new 021's fitted they said bridgestone list pressures as 36f 42r but he recommended 36f 40r. :)

Good morning all.
I've seen that wear pattern on many BT021's. It's one of the reasons that I'm not a fan of dual compound tyres. All front tyres wear more on the offside, due to road camber.
Shame you've bought new 021's. Storm St's are much better.:D
Cheers.
Was almost given them £50cash for a pair so shouldn't complain even if they do wear funny :)
