Rear brake issues

Had an "interesting experience today on the way home from work.
was just coming down the slip road off the M69 doing 70 officer;). lights at the roundabout were on red. Bit of front brake, changed down into 5th. then BANG immediately followed by loads of rear brake lever travel. When I'd stopped at the lights I saw brake fluid p!ssing all over my rear wheel and tyre! Gingerly rode it home thinking I'd lost my rear caliper as well, but that seems to be wedged into the swingarm :confused:.
As far as I can tell the torque arm bolt has either sheared or fell off. Not sure which is worse? Anyway, do these bolts have to be super special hi tensile or shear resistant or what ever the correct terminology is? If so anyone got a spare knocking about?
Going to have to try and extract the caliper from the swingarm at the weekend! The thing now seems to be seized on the disc, although itr definately wasn't earlier. Need to get myself another braided line as well :smt013

Shouldn't be anything special, but the front one on the curvy is shoulderd (If thats the right term). The torque arms wear as well, so maybe a combination of the 2?

I do have a spare front, rear is just a normal bolt I think

you can mangle high tensile too if you are using crap sockets.

I don't think they are anything special, you shouldn't use rear brake so hard to need that anyway.

It probably rattled loose and fell off, those locknuts are technically single use. I use loctite on them.


Caliper probably bashed swingarm pretty good. Take axle out to extract it (it will allow swingarm to spread a bit).

Got the caliper out no problem using the method you said. Swingarm has a little dent in it where the caliper hit it and I have a bent bleed nipple. Got off fairly lightly really. :cool:

I know a couple of Curvies that have falied the MOT because the front torque arm and/or mount has worn, not that that is necessarily your problem but it's worth checking.
